I thought I would remove Plymouth since I don't use the graphic log-in but I'm not sure about the "dracut" it will take out.

It looks like it is just one more app. slowing down my boot every morning but I don't want to cause new problems.
Can I remove it safely?
Bob

Removing dracut isn't a good move if you ever want to upgrade the kernel. You can remove the rhgb from the grub config file if you don't want to use plymouth, although doing that won't actually save you much boot time at all.
Richard.

Some things plymouth provides are good (like finally a boot.log file), but the graphics are silly and just prevent you from seeing what happened if your new kernel freezes on you during boot. I simply edit out the "rhgb" parameter from the kernel boot lines in /boot/grub/grub.conf.

No, rhgb, etc., is among the first things removed, I never see the graphic login screen. I did notice the boot process stumble over [plymouth the other morning and thought it might be something I could eliminate.
I will leave things alone then.
Thanks,
Bob

For my own system F15.x86_64, I did a "yum erase plymouth*" then "yum install dracut". Which pulled back in 3 of the 7 plymouth pkgs.
I can not see any speed increase (not measured in any scientific way)
If only systemd, would let yum-updateonboot finish :(
