Hi, I want to install Fedora 12 32bit on my MacBook Pro 5,2. I downloaded the Live CD but that wouldn't boot giving me the following message:
nouveau 0000:02:00.0 PRAMIN flush timeout
and nothing ater that (similar to what is described in this thread: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=234023). If I added nomodeset to the boot parameters the system loaded but froze before when the vertical bars reached the end. If I boot without graphical interface the system boots and I get a prompt but I can't start x (result = black screen).
I have downloaded the DVD install instead and will see if that makes a difference (I found a thread that said it might but I can't find it now...). I will see if the DVD makes a difference and report back any findings.
I also wanted to ask advice on how (where) to install. I'm currently in a dual boot configuration (using reffit) with OSX and Fedora 11 which works great. I want to keep my FC11 install intact until I have everything up and running in FC12 and if possible install FC12 on the same disk. Is this a good/bad idea? Would it be better to install FC12 on a USB disk to begin with (that doesn't seem good to me but I know very little about these things).
Thanks for any advice.
best,
/Henrik
Concerning adding a f12 system beside your current setup. If you have enough space on the HDD, I'd backup your f11 system to a tar, resize your f11 partition, and create one for your f12 system. Once your satisfied with f12 you can "rm" the f11 system and copy the f12 system onto its partition and then reclaim the space used for the initial f12 install or leave it there for future situations like this one.
Taring your f11 system is really easy if it isn't spread across multiple partitions. Some documentation to get you started on the tar'ing process. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BackupYourSystem/TAR
the backup tar is quite easy to make. Restoring can involve updating your /etc/fstab for the new disk location and possibly reinstalling/fixing your grub/grub configuration or what ever bootloader is used for the Mac version.
Concerning apple hardware, I touch it as little as possible.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that.
