Evening all, After 9 years of not using linux, I've finally come back to the fold....and tada! I've installed fedora....23. I've just used Yum to install GCC and a few others, updated the system etc.
Is there any user groups in the Bedfordshire or Buckinghamshire area?
Apologies if it's off topic, but I'm a decade out of touch.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards
Doug Mckendrick

I have preferred to run (current - 1), now 29; that means most of the OS bugs have been shaken out (in part on this very active list) and bugs that I see are more likely to be the result of 'improvements' in the cutting-edge version of my main application.
But 23 is way too far back. Resources will be hard to find and there will be no security updates.
I tried a search for 'linux user groups uk,' but most of the results looked rather old.
Welcome back...

Morning, Completely agree, I updated to 30 last thing last night. A relatively simple, quick and easy process, I was impressed. 23 was just a copy I had downloaded from somewhere for the USB. When I had it installed, it was quite easy to find a link to download the latest version using the fedora installer. Initially I couldnt find a suitable download link to make a USB live CD from windows. It seemed alot easier when you could pick up linux format or lud....or I'm just not very au fait. 30 is very different from 23, or the user interface. I'll look forward to having a play with it. It installed gcc automatically this time, so that was good. I couldn't find it in the software tab.

[Please don't top-post on the list]
By "the user interface" I presume you mean Gnome. There are also several others desktops available, notably KDE, Mate, etc. which some find easier to use. Some of these have their own mailing-lists for desktop-specific issues (rather than general Fedora queries).

Really bad idea, especially if you've been away for a while. You should install Fedora 30. In case you're not up to speed on Fedora, it's worth noting that new releases come every 6 months and after the release of version N, version N-2 reaches end of life and receives no further support, not even critical security updates. So be prepared to update at least once a year.
