Subtitled: It just takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel... Subsubtitled: Against stupidity, the gods themselves rally in vain. --von Schiller
There once was a ham--k5di, who thought himself quite the Linux guy. He blogged every thought to Fedora. Yes! Every pointless minutia!
Every day, we of fedora-list, suffer his posts with content bereft. When kind folks do try to help him out, he starts flaming and acts quite the lout.
He'll tell them they are stupid (and start yet another thread). It would have been much better, had he had his own "Blogger".
But no! He'll happily blather 'til we've been whipped to a lather. Fie upon thee, Karl Larsen! Always will you plague Fedorans.

---- and this is distinguishing ourselves upon his transgressions? I'm embarassed to belong to a list that thinks this is acceptable. Even if I agreed with every sentiment above, I would not see the need to express it simply because it is targeted to embarrass 1 individual.
Did it never occur to you to NOT hit the send button after you typed this?
Why is it so hard to delete or simply not reply to messages that you don't like?

I think it's OK - the utter pomposity of it takes away the breath.
Schiller was never quite given the historic acclaim that Shakespeare received, but he was every bit his equal. To take his comment out of its context, and append it to that little piece of doggerel was a real statement about the author, not about Schiller or Larsen. Tragedy turned to farce, a fitting coda to this whole episode.

I'm tired of these discussions. My first email in the list in order to talking about a man called K.L., and the last, sure. This is lasting too much days. It's maybe the fashion play of the summer? It's absurd. Who is more childish here?
Daniel
I remember years ago when the list seemed populated with a more intelligent species. That's why you won't see me participating much anymore except to make this type observation.
Cheers....

It is summer and the children on this list have nothing to do but write crap that they think is poetry or such. They need to show they have something to say every hour.
For me when I have nothing to say I say nothing :-)

While I don't generally go for name calling, I think this part of your mail deserves reply. To rephrase the question: what is hard about deleting or not replying to numerous threads which often violate several general standards of net decency?
* they decrease the signal to noise ratio, making it harder to those seeking help to get their questions seen and similarly harder for those looking to help to weed through the needless duplicated and pointless threads. It's akin to one person in a classroom always raising their hand and asking a thousand questions. It's disrespectful to the other people who may have questions.
* they diminish the usefulness of list archives and threaded mail clients.
It's also highly annoying when many people have politely pointed out that this practice is frowned upon. (Yeah, many others have pointed it out not-so-politely as well. This should only reflect on those folks and not be a reason to disregard the valid complaints of the others that have been nice in their requests.)
Additionally, I'm sure that not everyone is proficient with filtering tools to sufficiently weed out the poster(s) they think are abusing the list as well as the many replies that are spawned. Sure, dropping every post from one person is trivial. It's less trivial to drop the ensuing discussions that they start. And it's a waste of effort to need to do so.
Basic list etiquette rightly frowns on:
* starting multiple threads which clog up threaded mail client displays and the list archives
* answering questions with completely incorrect information
* ignoring the useful replies to your own questions by others on the list
It's not surprising that when requests to follow such simple etiquette is repeatedly ignored, that some resort to mockery. It's similar to what many do with politics. When you can't get anywhere with reason, try playful bashing.
I'm not speaking in favor of that, but I am not surprised to see it. Unfortunately, it further decreases the utility of the list.
Personally, I've used procmail to work around the problem, to a small extent. But it has made this list much less of a place to want to spend time reading, learning, and helping others.
I don't know how this started but I know a school yard bully when I see one.
If you guys who are doing this to Karl want to play some intellectual Peter Metering, there are lots of people on this list who can take you on and leave you grovelling in the sand.
Now knock it off.

From what I can see is what happened id that this "Karl" gentleman has
a history of positing frequently, often spawning multiple threads about the same issue. He has been warned and asked to stop this numerous times.
Then, you decided to "protect" him for reason, specifically putting his name in the subject. Then some wanna-be poet spawned his own thread, likely inspired by yours.

I have deleted more E-MAIL from this list from people complaining about what Karl has said than what Karl has actually posted.
