Security, Hacking & Social Engineering Presentation.
by Emmanuel Goldstein
Hi!
My name's Luis and I'm a computer science student from Spain. I'm
planning to organise a presentation at my university about all the
aspects about security, hacking and social engineering that a system
administration should be aware of and the thing is that I'm running
late so It would be great if you guys could send me some PowerPoint or
OO-Impress presentations, Pdf documents, or any kind of multimedia
material I could use for it.
The topics I'm going to cover, in no particular order, are:
- Sniffers
- Viruses
- Port Scanning
- Fingerprinting
- Unnecessary open ports
- Bad software configuration (web servers, databases, mail servers...)
- SQL injections
- Buffer Overflows
- Use of google as a information gathering tool.
- Firewalls
- DOS attacks
- Brute force attacks
- Cryptography.
- Cross site scripting
- Man-in-the-middle
- Intrusion Detection Systems
- Honeypots
- Identity Spoofing
- Social Engineering
- Gathering information from trash/rubbish
- Physical security in buildings. Access to the building, cable
sniffing, secure ID's...
- And more.... ;-)
I'd really appreciate if you guys could send me some information,
particularly other presentations, diagrams or images, to this email
address: goldstein101(a)gmail.com
Thanks a lot in advance. You're doing me a big favour. I owe each of
you a pint of Guinness (definitely the best beer ever) ;-P
Take care, Cheers. Bye!!

best/favorite/easiest to use DVD player..
by bruce
hi...
i have a possible project that's going to require that i get into the world
of dvd. i'd need to be able to play around with/create/play dvd media
files...
initial research on google seems to give a number of open source apps for
playing dvds (xine/mplayer). are there associated open source tools for
editing the underlying dvd files...
so, my questions:
what's the easiest tool to use to get started looking/playing around with
dvd files on FC3?
are there "open source" test dvd files that I can use to test/play with?
ideally, I want to be able to take a test dvd file, add some information to
it, play the file, see the results of the 'information add' operation
any thoughts/etc... would be helpful and appreciated.
thanks
bruce

kernel-devel for FC3
by Matej Badalič
Hi!
I would like to know, where I can find the package for the last kernel-devel
for Fedora Core 3?
I have searched around the web but the most recent kernel-devel I have found
is kernel-devel-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3.
Can anybody please tell me where I can find the devel package for the last
kernel-2.6.12-1.1381_FC3?
Thanks!

RE: FC4 does not work, "out of the box" for me; GUI/X11 fails
by Dan Thurman
I tried that.
I am starting to get upset now. Mike says to update
but how is this possible? All I can do is to run the
fedora rescue disc and then what? Do I run the up2date -u
in this mode after setting up the network connection?
Seems that whomever released this distro should throw away
the iso cds and create a BRAND NEW ONE. This distro is very
very very hosed and buggy. There are NO RECOVERY PATHs that
I can find and I have wasted too much time already trying to
fix what is very broken.
Dan

Try replacing this file with older version. libvgahw.a
for details search list archives ~7th july 2005. Also see bugzilla
referrred there.

what are the iproute2 rules and routes startup scripts
by Robin Mordasiewicz
How do I configure iproute2 rules and route tables to automatically start
at boot time, or to be run when the network script is run
ie. I can issue the following commands, but when the machine reboots the
settings are not automtically set. Typically I have been accustomed to
editing /etc/sysconfig/network to establist a default route, but I need to
configure multiple routing tables. I can edit /etc/iproute2/rt_tables to
add the table names, but where do I put the config settings for the rules
and routes.
[root@localhost]# ip route add default via 10.90.2.1 dev bond0.902 table 11
[root@localhost]# ip ru add from 10.90.2.244/32 table 11 priority 500

lexmark z705 printer
by jack wallen
i've scoured the net trying to find a solution to get a lexmark z705
printer working with FC4. i thought i found the solution with a lexmark
cups driver but it won't install due to some ssl and crypto
dependencies. i've attempted to get the dependencies met with yum but no
luck.
has anyone been sucessful in getting that printer working? if so, can
you give me a little advice?
thanks so much.
