Compilation problem

I am a newbie and trying to compile a code on FC3 with kernel
2.6.9 and gcc version 3.4.2.
The code gives me following errors -
/usr/lib/gcc/i386-redhat-linux/3.4.2/include/stddef.h:213:
error: syntax error before "typedef"
/usr/include/stdio.h:46: error: syntax error before "typedef"

/usr/include/sys/cdefs.h:267:20: missing binary operator before token "("
/usr/include/sys/cdefs.h:274:19: missing binary operator before token "("
The same code compiles on RH8 kernel 2.4.18-14 and gcc 3.2 .
Can anybody tell me what can be the problem

FC Updates online
by Kumara Jayaweera
Hi List!
I Listened and saw in books there may be a possibility to update our FC
systems online like windows update. my question is, when it would be
possible? in FC4? if we do so, do all our FC systems become some extent of
Standard? I wish it come soon in reality!
Thanks

Panel Bar-Auto Hide-Getting Stuck-FC3
by Mark Sargent
Hi All,
I find that if I set the bars as auto hide, they often get stuck and
overlap the bottom of apps, or top, where I now have 1 set to. Anyone
else get this.? Rather annoying, and I usually have to log out/in to fix
it. Any ideas..? Cheers.

Hard drive partion behaving wierdly, how do I diagnose?
by Arthur Pemberton
Hello,
A recent 'crash' of my FC3 took down FC with Mozilla running. My mozilla
profile is symlinked to a vfat (fat32) partion. Since rebooting, this
partioning starts of from boot as rw, but then some how, at soem point
becomes ro, that causes some troublesome problems. I've already rsynced
all the important folders I could recall to an NFS mount.
What I need to know is how do I go about diagnosing and hopefully fixing
the problem. Preferable what tooks that come with the distro can I use
for this purpose.
Thank you.

Re: Install completed but boot failure
by Roger Lin
OK, here is the lines:
Installation finished. No error reported.
This is the content of the device map /boot/grub/device.map.
Check if this is correct or not. If any of the lines is incorrect,
fix it and re-run the script 'grub-install'.
# this device map was generated by anaconda
(fd0) /dev/fd0
(hd0) /dev/hda
I have no idea if this right or wrong, so I try to reboot the system,
same thing, here is the last 3 lines on the screen after a few
minutes:
Verifying DMI Pool Data ..............
Boot from CD :
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
Any ideas, please?
Thanks a lot,
Roger

X Forwarding with SSH in FC3 and FC2
by Patrick Nelson
FC3 with openssh-3.9p1-8.0.1
I've been upgrading FC2 systems to FC3. One of the things that I have
noticed is that X Forwarding does not work on FC3, so I'm thinking there
is some config variable that addresses this. /etc/ssh/sshd_conf has the
proper entery (X11Forwarding yes). So here is the test:
On FC3 system I run
ssh -X myoldfc2sys
nedit
which says errors to:
X Error of failed request: BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 20 (X_GetProperty)
Atom id in failed request: 0x6e
Serial number of failed request: 20
Current serial number in output stream: 20
On any FC2 system I can go to either a FC2 system or FC3 system and run
the same commands. So this leads me to believe that it is more like a
client issue. But I can not track down what that would be. Anyone
guess or better yet know?

xorg - big hack, but it works
by Jim Cornette
Since I noticed a lot of video problems and no resolutions seem to be
coming for resolutios yet. I have successfully rid myself from the
radeon problem with a computer lockup. I downloaded, extracted, then
attempted to install the drivers using the install.sh script. The script
exited because it couldn't find some config file. (which one?)
http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/
Anyway, if you dive into the /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri directory and
the /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers directory, change file permissions to
444 for all files in the /dripkg/radeon for radeon, there are three
drivers. the drivers with the .o go into the drivers directory and the
.so goes into the dri directory.
Being a hack, I just thought I'd say that tuxracer now works and
changing from gui-terminal-gui does not lockup the computer.
Hopefully this will be fixed. My main curiousity is for the 915 driver.
It is not included in Fedora, I don't know if adding the .so and .0 to
the similar places would work or not. The 915 still uses the i810 driver
but has the addition of a 915.so driver for dri.
I have not run the install.sh for the 915 yet. You have to be out of X
to do so.

RE: apache
by Edwards, Thomas W.
Sorry bout the html.
And yes that did the trick, when I added selinux=0 to the grub.conf
file.
Any clue why that would happen? How would it affect cgi from diff
directories and not the normal dir?
And I don't recall seeing messages pertaining to selinux in the logs
Just denied access, thought it was permissions.

Does this problem still happen if you temporarily disable SELinux (add
selinux=0 to list of kernel parameters at boot time)? Do you get any
selinux-related messages in /var/log/messages when trying to run the
CGIs?

If at all possible, please don't post in HTML, with silly disclaimers
like the one above, to this mailing list.

MySQL Deamon - is it running?
by Jay Paulson
After installing Fedora C3 I went to connect to MySQL. I got an error
message about the mysql.sock file missing. Upon further investigation
it sure enough was missing as well as the 'mysql' script to
start|stop|restart the deamon in the /etc/init.d directory. I've done
ps awx to see if it was even running and sure enough it is not. I did
rpm -q mysql and sure enough it is installed. Is there something I'm
missing here?
Thanks for any help.

grub question ...
by Max L. Eidswick
I have FC3 in several versions loaded on my ThinkPad a31p on both the
internal 80GB and a second 60GB in the second hard drive slot.
Everything starts ok unless I have swapped the second drive with an add-on
battery which can use that same slot. When I have the battery in, grub say
"GRUB loading, please wait.", then "Error 21" and hangs.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? Otherwise, will lilo work if
I use it instead of grub?
TIA,
Max
