RE: FC5 Bonding problem
by Dimitar Dragoev
Hi,
The only configuration different between eth0 and eth1 is: DEVICE=eth0 and
DEVICE=eth1. Can you also explain what is xen kernel?
Yes I'm using 2 Cisco switches 3500XL for eth0 and 2950 for eth1. Also I'm
using VLANs and have same configuration for all eth ports:
interface FastEthernet0/23
switchport access vlan 80
speed 100
duplex full
And trunk ports to the router using encapsulation dot1q.
I don't think the switch or negotiation are problems as:
"When I physically disconnect eth0 everything works fine and all traffic
flow
via eth1
Second case eth0 has link up but not have access to default gateway
192.168.0.161 (for example access list or switch failure) eth0 goes down and
eth1 which is ok try's to go up but w/o success"

Hi
I'm trying to setup network bonding active/backup linked to two switches.
Below are my configuration files:
/etc/modprobe.conf
alias bond0 bonding
options bond0 mode=1 arp_interval=1000 arp_ip_target=192.168.000.161
primary=eth0
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0
DEVICE=bond0
IPADDR=192.168.0.164
NETWORK=192.168.0.160
NETMASK=255.255.255.224
USERCTL=no
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
# Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet
DEVICE=eth0
USERCTL=no
ONBOOT=yes
MASTER=bond0
SLAVE=yes
BOOTPROTO=none
ETHTOOL_OPTS="speed 100 duplex full autoneg off"
ETH1 almost same configuration.
Now some outputs:

Second case eth0 has link up but not have access to default gateway
192.168.0.161 (for example access list or switch failure) eth0 goes down and
eth1 which is ok try's to go up but w/o cusses. In the message log I can see
only this:
bonding: bond0: backup interface eth1 is now down
bonding: bond0: backup interface eth1 is now up
bonding: bond0: backup interface eth1 is now down
bonding: bond0: backup interface eth1 is now up
bonding: bond0: backup interface eth1 is now down
bonding: bond0: backup interface eth1 is now up
However exactly same setup works fine with REL 4.2
I suppose this can be a bug in FC5?

Optoma EP 750 Projector on Fedora Core 6
by Steven P. Ulrick
Hello, Everyone
I am attempting to get an Optoma EP 750 projector operating with Fedora
Core 6.
The video card that I am using is the following: GeForce4 MX 440
lspci -v says the following about this card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 MX
440] (rev a3) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 11
Memory at e4000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
Memory at d8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=512K]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at d8080000 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [44] AGP version 2.0
I do not want to do anything fancy with this intended setup. All that I
want to do is use Lyricue (http://lds.sourceforge.net/) to display Bible
verses and Praise & Worship songs on our Optoma EP 750 projector. To
clarify, this is how we have it set up right now under Windows XP: Using
Creative Lifestyles Presentation Manager program, I select songs or Bible
verses on the 15" LCD monitor that I am sitting in front of right now.
Then, whatever I select in Presentation Manager is diaplayed, at the same
time, by the projector, on the screen at the front of the Sanctuary. This
is how it currently works on Windows XP.
I have Fedora Core 6 dual booting with Windows XP. So the only difference
between what we have Been doing and what I Want to do is that I Want to do
this with Fedora Core 6. Same PC, same projector, same video card.
I assume that this won't be too difficult to achieve, since the Projector
does display the Fedora Core 6 boot up messages on the screen. The
problem comes when Xorg starts up. If I type "Ctrl | Alt | F1" the
Projector displays the FC6 (Console) login prompt. It even shows me
logging in and ssh'ing into my home computer. As an experiment, I updated
Lame from CVS. Displayed perfectly on the Projector. Experiments I tried
with editing files with vi and emacs displayed perfectly on the the
Projector. The only problem appears to be when the X server is running.
I am not a newbie with MOST Linux related subjects. But I am a total
newbie on this :) So all help that you can offer is greatly appreciated.
Have a Great Day/Night,

This is a software problem. See the following bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=212640
Add your comments to this bug, it may help with the solution.
The problem is not related to Gnome as stated in the bug description, it happens with KDE too. However, you can playback the DVD anyway, it's just not automatically mounted, but it will still work if you mount it manually or if the software you're using to playback does it for you.

Sendmail + clamav-milter...
by Drew Bertola
Hi,
I'm setting up sendmail on FC6 and am having trouble determining whether
or not clamav-milter is properly configured and running. I guess
there's been some changes since the last time I set this up (FC3).
I'm not sure if I need to install and run clamav-server w/
clamav-server-sysv, but it wasn't pulled in as a dependency when I used
yum to install clamav-milter.
I've added the following line to my sendmail.mc and rebuilt sendmail.cf
(followed by a sendmail restart):
INPUT_MAIL_FILTER(`clamav', `S=local:/var/run/clamav-milter/clamav.sock,
F=, T=S:4m;R:4m')dnl
and the resulting sendmail.cf has:
O InputMailFilters=clamav, milter-regex, greylist
Xclamav, S=local:/var/run/clamav-milter/clamav.sock, F=, T=S:4m;R:4m
When I send a mail out via "echo test | mail -v -s test
drew(a)somewhere.com" I do receive the mail, but there's no header telling
me it's gone through the milter. Anyone have an idea what's wrong?
Also, has anyone played with milter-regex or the greylist milter? How
effective are they?

What is this page_to_pfn symbol
by Markus Lindholm
Hi
I have a x86_64 box that I've updated from fc4 to fc6 and I'm having
serious problems to compile the kernel module for a HighPoint
RocketRaid 2320 card that I have.
I can't remember that I had any problems when I compiled the driver
sources I got from HighPoint for fc4, but when I'm now doing it for
fc6 I've run in to all kinds of problems.
First I had to append version.h with the line
#define UTS_RELEASE '2.6.18-1.2868.fc6-x86_64'
Second I had to create an empty config.h file
That much I gathered when I googled the net.
Now I have a problem with page_to_pfn symbol, the build runs as follows
[mli@zeus linux]$ make
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-1.2868.fc6-x86_64'

When I try to insert the resulting rr232x.ko module following line
appears in /var/log/messages Dec 29 20:46:41 zeus kernel: rr232x:

I tried to e-mail HighPoint about this, but without an answer, I guess
it is the wrong season to expect a speedy response.
Any one on the list who knows what goes wrong here? And if there's a way fix it?
Thanks

sdc suddently sdd?
by Tom Horsley
I just realized that sometime fairly recently my usb2
drive I use for backups has stopped showing up as
/dev/sdc and instead shows up as /dev/sdd (with no
device named /dev/sdc anywhere).
Wah happened?
How can I reliably mount my backup drive on /backup
if the device name changes at random?
Hopefully my fixed disks will at least stay sda
and sdb?

PL2303 & gui serial status display for /dev/ttyUSB(x)?
by Gene Heskett
Greetings;
Trying to get roadnav to talk to my elderly Garmin 12, and because I'm out
of serial ports, the garmin 4 pin to db9 connector cable is plugged into
the db9 end of a pl2303 serial to usb adaptor. The pl2303 is recognized
and assigned to /dev/ttyUSB0 according to dmesg.
I'm apparently getting zero data from the garmin and I suspect its the
lack at least the 7 wire protocol at the garmin side of the pl2303. I
believe it may even be just a 2 wire & ground setup as the garmin
connector is only a round 4 pin, probably with little or no flow control
as the garmin apparently runs at 4800 baud only.
But, I'd like to ask here on this list: Has anyone ever made a pl2303
based adaptor actually work?
The only other time I seriously tried to use this $40 gizmo was as an
interface translator with the rs-232 pack of a vintage coco on the other
end. At that time I was able to type back and forth using terminal
programs on both, but a known good zmodem setup on the coco failed to
move more than about 10 bytes of a 10k file when I had minicom attempt
the transfer. At the time I also suspected config/handshake problems and
eventually gave up, but now I think the pl2303 may be busted or
miss-configured, hence the request for a gui program to monitor
individual wire status at the db9 connector, but do it
using /dev/ttyUSB(x).
Is this latter idea even possible?
Thanks everybody.
