by Dan Track
Hi
Is there a way for me to copy files from one xen vm machine to another
without having to rely on scp through the virtual connections?
Thanks

Re: Problem with NIS in Fedora 9
by Michael Hannon
Thanks, Tom. That seems to have done the trick. NIS is working just fine now.

My constant thought with all network problems in F9 is to
disable the NetworkManager service, enable the network service
and reboot to see if things work much better then :-).

LVM question
by Luc MAIGNAN
Hi,
I 've extended a volume group by addind a new disk (pvcreate, vgextend
and lvextend).
All seems to be ok, while lvdisplay gives me the new modified size .
But a 'df' continues to give me the old size.
What's wrong ?

Please disregard this and the earlier message. Apparently I'm an idiot. While this may be obvious to many people, I never knew. O E :-)

rsh issue (access denied)...
by bruce
hi...
i've got an "access denied" issue with rsh on one of my boxes (and before we
start, no use ssh comments.. rsh is what i'm dealing with for now!!)
i've got a few boxes in my network, and i can successfully rsh into them
with no issue. however, on one box, i can't access it using rsh, and i'm
running out of things to try... kind of curious.
i can login using rlogin.
i've modifed the /etc/pam.d/rsh,rlogin files, along with the /etc/securetty
file. as far as i can tell, nothing else has been changed...
the curious thing. as far as i can tell... the files on the system that
doesn't work, are the same as the files on the systems that are allowing rsh
to occur...
the err i'm getting in the /var/log/secure is:

Problem with NIS in Fedora 9
by Michael Hannon
Greetings. We've installed Fedora 9 on a Pentium 4 system (i386). This
system is part of a group of 20 or so systems that get NIS service from
one of our servers. Most of the other systems in this group are running
Fedora 8. The system in question is the only one running Fedora 9.
On all the Fedora 8 systems the NIS service works just fine. On the
Fedora 9 system the ypbind service seems to start but never really makes
it all the way:
[root@f9sys ~]# ypwhich
ypwhich: Can't communicate with ypbind
[root@f9sys ~]# service ypbind restart
Shutting down NIS service: [ OK ]
Starting NIS service: [ OK ]
Binding NIS service: ............... [ OK ]
[root@f9sys ~]# ypwhich
ypwhich: Can't communicate with ypbind
When this happens we get a message in /var/log/messages:
Jun 24 21:08:50 f9sys
ypbind: NIS domain: f9sysdom, NIS server:
I.e., we have the correct domain name, but no server is ever listed.
But on this system, as on all other systems in the group, we have in
/etc/yp.conf:
domain f9sysdom server our.nis.server
We have checked that the problem does not seem to be related to
iptables, TCP wrappers, or selinux.
We also have "our.nis.server" listed in /etc/hosts, and
hosts: files dns nis
in /etc/nsswitch.conf, so it would seem not to be a DNS problem.
If you have any thoughts about this, please send 'em my way.
Thanks.

mplayerplug-in and trailers at Apple.com
by Andre Costa
Hi,
I've been happily using mplayerplug-in to watch movie trailers on
http://www.apple.com/trailers for quite some time, but lately I've
been denied access to some movies with a "get latest quicktime"
message (other movies still play as they used to).
These are the versions I'm using:
mplayerplug-in-3.50-33.fc8
mplayer-1.0-63_rc2.fc8
mplayer-fonts-1.0-7.at
mplayer-skin-mini-0.1-11.2.at
Anyone knows a way to work around this? Or should I just wait for
newer versions of MPlayer / mplayerplug-in?
BTW: still using Fedora 8.
Regards,
Andre
