hello all expert i have a problem when i installing Fedora 9 in my workstatioin. this error : insert disk2 into my cdrom after exception erro. select: ok, save, debug. what should i do? help me. thanks, zaya

Greetings, Just did a yum update and then trying to play an mp3 or m4a file I get the following error message: *** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to create stream. Desktop panels in Gnome

Greetings, I keep two screenwide panels at the bottom of the desktop. On login, sometimes one is above the other, sometimes the other one is above. How do I make the setting permanent rather than have this variableness? Thanks. Max Pyziur pyz(a)brama.com

Can't get flash-plugin working in FF3 ??

Hi; The subject of media has been something I have avoided, so I am a newbie at understanding what I might be doing wrong. I am running F9 -x86_64 and FireFox3. Yum shows me flash-plugin (Adobe Flash Plugin 9.0.124.0 arch i386) is installed. Firefox 'about:plugin' shows me flash-plugin is NOT installed. After download and installation I re-booted just to sure and no joy. What could I be doing wrong? Where should I look? Is there an arch mis-match? Dumb question: Is there a Linux substitute for Adobe Flash? -- Regards Bill; Fedora 9, Gnome 2.22.2 Evo.2.22.2, Emacs 22.2.1

bootable failed sw raid 1 with F9

Hi list, For the first time in my life i tried to install Fedora with sw raid. See below what went wrong. Here is what I did: Start with 2 empty 500GB sata disks. Make sure nvraid is turned off in my BIOS. Start an F9 install, creating 2 sw RAID partitions: md0 and md1. md0 is 100MB and has an ext3 /boot. md1 has the rest of the space and is LVM. In the lvm I have created the rest of my partitions. Install went great, after reboot my system booted fine, so far so good. I then shutdown my system, pulled out a disk and started again. I got the message "GRUB Hard Disk Error". So I shut down, plugged the disk back in, pulled out the other one and started again. This time I was met by a GRUB shell, no boot logo, no idea what to do (no menu). Shutdown again, replug the disk, start again, get on IRC, type: grub root (hd0,0) setup (hd0) root (hd1,0) setup (hd1) After that: reboot minus 1 disk. I can see grub, with logo and boot options. It starts ok, i even get rhgb for a second and then I see: "fsck.ext3: Invalid argument while trying to open /dev/md0" I can go into a maintenance shell and when I do cat /proc/mdstat is see: md0 : inactive sda1[0](s) "mdadm --assemble /dev/md0" turns it active again, but well I have no idea how I can continue normal boot, if it is even possible. So this is my story, now my questions: - Did I do anything wrong? I performed the installation twice, with both times the same result. - Is this a bug somewhere? Do other people get the same or better results? - Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks for reading this far, Sander

Memory, swap, and limits

Every new computer I've yet had has begun slowing down soon after I get it -- probably because I keep several browsers open, with from several to many tabs each. I've learned long since to make sure each machine has all the memory it can handle from the git-go, before it ever reaches my house. And every time I do an install, when I get to anaconda's partitioning stage, I try to triple the swap; it always refuses. Yet the little bar graph that Gnome's System Monitor (2.22.2 on the present F9 machine; probably the same on all the rest -- I always upgrade early) puts on my panel seldom shows a total of memory and swap together much less than 95% in use. Otoh, I've never gotten anywhere near filling up a hard drive, except once when I had a testbed machine triple booting three different distros. So why can't I at least increase the swap space? -- Beartooth Staffwright, Not Quite Clueless Power User Remember I know little (precious little!) of where up is.
