X Configuration help request
by John Wendel
I'm trying to configure X to do the following:
[1] Computer A, the target of the configuration, has a display but no
keyboard or mouse.
[2] Computer B has a working F11 installation, with X, a keyboard, and a
mouse.
[3] Computers A and B are on the same local network.
Can I configure A so that I can control X on A with the keyboard and
mouse of B? I assume that I need some additional software, besides X,
that will proxy the keyboard and mouse events from B to A.
Clues, please.
Thanks,
John

Problem with screen resolution after installing F12
by Dick Roark
After installing Fedora 12 I am having problems setting up 1280x1024 screen
resolution. Only 640x480 and 800x600 are available. I was using F11 at
1280x1024 on this hardware before upgrading to F12. After that, so far no
joy. I would appreciate any helpful info. I have also tried using various
configurations of the xorg.conf and xrandr without success. Obviously, I'm
missing something. I feel certain that the fix is right under my nose but
so far, nothing works.

I was eager to try F12 live CD; but I am unable to login to fedora 12 KDE

requires username & password?
Thank you.

Assistance finding out what process is writing to the disk drive
by jnissley@nissley.org
Thanks for the IOTOP command. It does not show me much in this case. I
do not know what is causing the disk drive light to stay on now. The
disk drive light works fine until about 5 minutes after boot up. then
the hard drive light goes crazy and stays on solid. I can not really
tell if the the hard drive is really in use but according to IOTOP it is
not being used.

installing fedora packages on RHEL -- how bad the craziness?
by Robert P. J. Day
actually, this is technically about installing fedora packages on
centos 5.4 but, obviously, the same issues apply. and i asked about
this on the centos list but i'd like the fedora perspective as well.
the short version -- someone running centos 5.4 needs a fairly new
version of poppler-utils for "pdftohtml". the current version of that
package is 0.5.4, and there is (AFAICT) no updated version.
that package is currently up at version 0.12:
http://poppler.freedesktop.org/. for this person's software to work,
his centos box *must* have a newer version of poppler-utils than what
is currently available for centos 5.4.
apparently, the problem was solved by (yeesh) installing a newer
version package in the form of a fedora rpm. how the heck does *that*
work? wouldn't that make a mess of the package history? i imagine i
would need, what, --nodeps and --ignorearch? but is there a better
way to do this? i simply don't see a newer centos/rhel package, which
would be the obvious solution.

F12 Upgrade: Rebooting Over, and over, and....
by Chris
As the topic says, I updated last night and this morning I rebooted (new kernel) and all my box does is go off into reboot oblivion.
Any help would be appreciated. Else, a reinstall from media tonight and possibly NOT install the new kernel?
On another not - The tip on not using 3rd part sources (for the Flash install of F12/64). While I knew this already, still worth mentioning!
Thank all for your help thus far.
Regards,
Chris

ath5k access point in Fedora 12
by James Allsopp
Hi,
has anyone had any joy getting an atheros card working in Master mode in
Fedora 12. All the options in the networking and network-script directories
say Mode=Master but it won't start. The error on bringing wlan0 up is;
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
Failing this, is there an easy way to install madwifi, as I had trouble
finding a repository with the atheros drivers in.
People are also talking about compat-wireless, but a yum search reveals
nothing in the repositories. Also is there a way of finding out in fedora
what options were used to compile the kernel.
Thanks,
James
