X crashes
by James Allsopp
Hi,
I've had a lot of problems with X locking up on my Fedora 10 machine
with nvidia legacy drivers, I've an old fx5200. I can still ssh into it,
and was wondering how you restart X remotely. I've tried playing with
init 3, but that hasn't worked.
I'm also having problems with the video blanking for about 0.5s. What
should I be looking for and where wrt to logs.
Thank you very much,
James

Mozilla Prism crashes in F11
by Gilmar Machado
Hi,
I am running version 1.0b1 (available on the official site) on Fedora
11 x86. The application crashes on any site that contains flash
objects. In the terminal the only error message is "segmentation
fault"
Pages with no flash objects opens normally.
Someone has the same problem?

How to convert from mbox delivery to maildir?
by Neil Bird
I had a problem in another thread in which it was suggested I use maildir
instead of mbox as a spool store. I've had a good old google around, and I
can't for the life of me find any one place that really tells me anything.
Does anyone have any pointers?
For ref., I have a fetchmail -> sendmail -> procmail set up (although the
sendmail/procmail are pretty much the default install), which dump incoming
mail to /var/spool/mail/<user> [I have spamassassin in the equation as well,
with one proc recipe to dump spam into a sep. spool mbox].
I then use dovecot with IMAP/POP locally to get that mail into
ThunderBird, and also serve it up (that that's still in the spool) from
squirrelmail.
I plan to fully move all incoming mail accesses to IMAP, with users
(well, the family :) ) filing from the IMAP Inbox to local folders as and
when, with no POP fetching or auto copying frmo the IMAP folder into
Local/Inbox. For that, it'd be good to have a reliable mail store, which
sounds like I need to bin the spool area.
How does 'maildir' fit into this? What manitains it? Where would
root's/other-local mail go - still to /var/spool?

apcupsd and mge ups?
by mike cloaked
Does anyone know if apcupsd will support interfacing with MGE UPSes? I have
an MGE Pulsar Ellipse ASR 1000VA UPS unit, and although it does come with
some Linux software (Personal Solution PAC apparently based on NUT) and
cables, I am not familiar with setting any of this stuff up. Also I would
prefer if possible to use packages that are already in the Fedora domain
(for F10/F11)
Since MGE is now merged with APC I wondered if installing apcupsd would
support this unit - any advice appreciated.
Thanks...

Dialup from a fedora machine
by Stuart McGraw
Hello all,
I am having a bit of an emergency. I just lost
my regular medium speed internet connection and
am going to need to use dialup until I can buy
some replacement equipment.
So I am trying to setup ppp/dialup (anyone remember
that? :-) on my Fedora 11 machine (something I did
years ago in FC4 days). I have a USR-5610B modem
in a pci slot. But Fedora seems not to notice it --
when I reboot Anaconda fails to notice any new device
and I see no /dev/modem.
Not sure what to check. I think the modem is ok as
I have two of them and the same problem with both.
AFAIK, the modem is real modem, not one of those
Win-modem things.
Is there anything special I need to do to make Fedora
aware of this thing?

And one further: I hadn't realized that Flash was not playing sound.
Everything else - MP3s (using Fluendo), mov, ogg etc were all working,
but no sound in Flash until I found:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Multimedia/Flash
Following the instructions for F11 resulted in upgrading from Flash 9
to 10 and sound now works.
