SSH and X forwarding not working from my laptop
by Gary Stainburn
I'm sure I've reported this a while back but I can't find it in the archives.
I'm having a problems connecting from my laptop to a number of my servers.
It's not a solid fault, but it's fairly constant at the moment.
I have a number of servers FC7 to FC10 that I connect to, as well as a number
of FC10 workstations. These all work fine. However from my laptop I get the
following when I connect:
Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding.
tcsetattr: Interrupted system call
Last login: Wed Aug 26 11:13:21 2009 from gary.ringways.co.uk
[root@stan ~]#
and then once I'm in the BASH command line editing doesn't work.
Can anyone suggest where I can start looking into the problem. I'm not too
bad with ssh but have no knowledge of xauth, konsole, BASH etc.
Gary

clone a bootable fedora USB drive?
by David L
After a recent hard drive crash on my laptop,
I've been trying to limp along by installing
f11 on a 8GB USB stick. After an installation
from a live USB stick to another USB stick,
I drove to a local hotspot to update and
yum install some stuff that wasn't on the
live USB. It took forever to update, not
even counting the download time. I'm sure
there is a reason, but I was surprised that
the original installation took about 7 minutes
and it took several hours to update that
installation AFTER downloading all of
the updated rpms.
Anyhoo, now that I've spent most of a
day getting the USB stick updated
and configured, I want to clone it to
another USB stick. I tried a few naive
things like copying directories to the
backup stick, but ran into boot errors
(I think due to different uuids on the
backup sticks partitions). What is the
right way to clone a fedora installation
on a USB stick to a second stick that
isn't exactly the same size (they are
both 8G, but different models so have
slightly different sizes).
Thanks,
David

Preventing ConsoleKit from interrupting audio when switching consoles.
by William F. Acker WB2FLW +1 303 722 7209
Hi all,
I use speech output for reading the screen. Currently, I'm using
espeak compiled to use portaudio. Whenever I switch consoles, I have to
wait a few seconds for audio output to resume. I understand that
ConsoleKit is responsible for the delay while it figures out if I'm the
same user and should be allowed to use the audio device.
If anyone knows how to disable this behavior, or knows fore sure that
ConsoleKit can't be configured to accomplish this, I'd really like to hear
about it. With respect, what I don't need to hear about is how desirable
folks think the current behavior is and how I should learn to love it too.
Pulseaudio won't help either, until it can be made to run
system-wide.
TIA.

Suddenly I can't play audio CDs in F11.
by Aaron Konstam
I can mount data CDs and play DVDs when inserted but when I insert an
audio CD no icon appears on the Desktop and no audio playing occurs.
I checked the previous messages on this problem and the last one said:
Dumb question, you did check the state of the option to play audio CDs
when inserted, right? Under preferences?
Well I can find no such option under System->Preferences.
Where is it or is there some other resolution of the problem. This used
to work.
