configure vim to produce a default program format
by L
Hi
I come cross a remote server, when I type vim x.pl, it pops up a
default format as below. It is nice. I look through my server, can't
figure out how to set up the vi parameters. Could some one show me
how?
I am on gnome desktop of F12.

FC12 -- running gnome-applet-sensors
by Robert Moskowitz
How can I control how this applet displays?
I had to add it to the panel, as I could not figure out any other way to
get it to display. And there are 10 separate tempurature displays....
I would really like some dropdown to let me look at each sensor.

ATOM N450 under F12?
by Gilboa Davara
Hello all,
I'm thinking about buying an N450 (pine-trail) based netbook.
As far as I know, the on-die GPU is based around the GMA 3100/G33 which
more-or-less works out of the box.
Will it work out of the box under F12? (Google yields more-or-less zero)
How bad is the expected performance (Read: will I be able to survive
youtube movies and kwin composite / compiz)?

f12 /dev/dvd ... missing
by François Patte
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Bonjour,
/dev/dvd (cdrom, dvdrw...) are missing in my f12 install.
Is it a new thing or is something missing for me?
With this system: only vlc is able to read dvd! Not xine, kaffeine....
Thanks for information

I figured out how to restore the original system fonts, and I thought I'd
report it here, since this seems to be less well-known knowledge:
1. The key is in understanding how fontconfig (
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/deployment-guide/f12/en-US/html/s1-x-fonts....)
works and how Fontmatrix interacts with it.
I compared my home directory with a colleagues whose F12 system was working
right. My directory had three relevant files/directories: .fontconfig,
.fonts and .fonts.config. My colleague had just one: .fontconfig. Now,
.fonts is the directory for installing local fonts, which is okay, since I
had installed some special fonts I use. This means the .fonts.config file
was something added by Fontmatrix. Indeed, looking at the xml file there was
a long list of system fonts tagged as <rejected>!? To clear the problem:
2. yum erase fontmatrix
3. rm -rf ~/.Fontmatrix
4. rm ~/.fonts.config
5. logged out as my user; logged back in. This restarted X, which is the
essential task.
I probably didn't have to remove Fontmatrix and the .Fontmatrix directory.
But I wanted to start with a clean set up. Probably all I needed to do was
remove .fonts.config and restart X.
Hope this helps someone else recover when fonts go crazy. :-)

[OpenLDAP] Rights access error
by Luc MAIGNAN
Hi,
I've setup an openldap server on a F12 box. It seems to be fine, but
only rootdn has te ability to update entries.
When a user tries to update an attribute he owns, he's got the error 50
: insufficient rights access
My slapd.conf is configured as below :
access to *
by self write
by users read
by anonymous auth
access to *
by dn="uid=xxx,ou=Users,dc=xxx,dc=com" write
by anonymous auth
by self write
by * none
What is the error ? Why an authenticated user cannot update its owns
attributes ?
Thanks for any help

Install
by Jesus Arocho
I am working on shifting the household from ubuntu to fedora. I installed F12
on my daughter's desktop with no issues; it does run slower, perhaps the
graphics driver is not optimal.
I then tried to install on my machine which is running a GeForce 8400 GT video
card. The initial screen loads and I select boot, then the screen goes black,
CD ROM grinds for a while, stops, and that is it. any ideas?

proxy setting for pidgin
by L
Hi
How to set proxy for pidgin? most connections, web, pidgin etc must go
through a proxy. the proxy set as
host proxy.aaa.bbb.cc
port 8080
user username
password passwd
of course, ssh, ftp can get through without proxy.
thanks
