Removing/Cemsoring bad Fedora mirrors?
by Dan Thurman
I have in the past, complained of hanging yum
updates and over time, I finally realized that
there are such things as bad mirrors, and for some
reason or another, causes yum to hang indefinately.
One would think that yum can detect "hangs" and
move on to the next mirror to pick up the slack,
but this is not the case, or so I am led to believe...
Yes, I can add the bad mirror(s) to the fastestmirror.conf
in Yum's pluginconf.d directory, but then again,
why isn't it that these bad mirrors are being removed
for misbehaving?
For those who do manage mirror lists, the specific mirror
in question is: "web-ster.com"
Kind regards,
Dan

Failed attempt installing AdobeReader_enu.i486
by Steven P. Ulrick
Hello Everyone,
When I attempt to do this:
yum install AdobeReader_enu.i486
this is the result:
package nss-softokn-freebl-3.12.4-19.fc13.x86_64 (which is newer than nss-
softokn-freebl-3.12.4-17.fc13.i686) is already installed
Does anyone know why the x86_64 & i686 versions of nss-softokn-freebl are ever
so slightly different?
With all this in mind, how does a guy go about installing AdobeReader_enu.i486
on a 64bit install of Fedora 13?

Preupgrade F11 to F13. DBUS issues, gdm shows empty user list, pulse doesn't work.
by Gilboa Davara
Hello all,
As the title suggest, I've preupgraded a fully updated F11 to F13.
I'm getting an empty user list in GDM and pulse refuses to start.
I've relabeled the root file system and reinstalled
selinux-policy-targeted - both didn't help. Doesn't look like an SELinux
issue.

It looks like it ought to work, but it doesn't. No effect on the size
of a terminal started using
Rt-click (anywhere in the terminal)->Open Terminal
Should I submit a bug?
Further ideas are solicited.

Managing debuginfo repos and packages
by Suvayu Ali
Hi,
I recently installed debuginfo packages for glibc and gcc with
debuginfo-install. It pulled in yum-plugin-auto-update-debug-info.
This enables the debuginfo repos for _all_ repos. And now every time I
use a yum command, it spits out messages like this,
> Found 2 installed debuginfo package(s)
> Enabling fedora-debuginfo: Fedora 13 - x86_64 - Debug
> Reading repository metadata in from local files
> Enabling rpmfusion-nonfree-debuginfo: RPM Fusion for Fedora 13 - Nonfree - Debug

I would like to keep this auto update feature of debuginfo packages, but
is there someway I could tell the plugin not to enable the debuginfo
repos for all repositories, just the ones with installed debuginfo packages?
Neither does this plugin come with a man page nor does it say anything
under "Plugin Options:" in the output of `yum --help'. These messages
can become quite annoying when you see them every single time. :-\
Thanks for any pointers.

ant with jdk5
by Fernando Lozano
Hi there,
Fedora includes Ant 1.7.1 which accoring to http://ant.apache.org/faq.html#java-version only
requires JDK 1.3 ti run. But if I install Sun JDK 1.5 and try to run any buildfile, I get:
$ ant -v
Apache Ant version 1.7.1 compiled on April 16 2010
Buildfile: build.xml
Detected Java version: 1.5 in: /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.22/jre
Detected OS: Linux
BUILD FAILED
java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file
I have many machines some with Fedora 11, 12 and 13, both 32 and 64-bit, but and some show this
error, some don't. And I can't find what to change, install or update so that Fedora Ant works with
Sun JDK 1.5.0. Curious, if I use gij and gcj (which are java 5) and works fine.

strange NFS behaviour after upgrade to F13
by Julian C. Dunn
I have upgraded both a NFS client and NFS server to F13 from F12.
Now, on the client, all the files in my NFS home directory appear to be
owned by nobody:nobody. It's as though they were being mysteriously
root_squashed even though they're not owned by root.
Oddly enough, all read/write operations seem to work. The only reason I
noticed is because I tried to SSH to the server and ssh(1) refused to
read the $HOME/.ssh/config.
Anyone have any ideas? On the client I have:
demeter:/home /home nfs defaults 0 0
in /etc/fstab and on the server:
/home 192.168.5.0/24(rw,sync)
in /etc/exports.
