Encrypted VM's (was Re: OT: Cloud Computing is coming to ...)

Or, maybe you could seed the entropy that the guest sees, thus removing randomness and compromising any key generation on the guest? I'm not saying that those things would be trivial to do - though I would guess the second time would be a lot easier for an attacker than the first. But, it doesn't seem proper to me to have something you hneed to encrypt on a guest on an untrusted host. (Excepting the obvious case where you're just storing a random file on the guest and never decrypting it or letting the keys into the RAM of the guest.)

f13 kde sound issues

Whenever I do a fresh login, the kde sound mixer applet is muted regardless of what state i left it in before. Sometime at login I see a (rapidly disappearing) message from phonon that the sound card is invalid. Sound is working though and the sound mixer correctly controls the volume. If I select the multimedia option in system settings I get a dialog containing: This is the list of devicdes KDE thinks can be removed: * Capture: PulseAudio Sound Server * Output : PulseAudio Sound Server Pulseaudio is running: % ps -ef | grep puls cr 3234 1 0 15:46 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start cr 3403 3234 0 15:46 ? 00:00:00 /usr/libexec/pulse/gconf-helper (cr is my username) I think something is wrong somewhere. This is a fresh installation of f13, but the home directory is the same as I had for f12. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Chris

virtualization without VMX cpu

I have a P-4 2.8Ghz and it doesnt seem to have the VMX instructions for virtualization. What I notice is KVM uses QEMU for the hypervisor instead? I can't detach some hardware that I need for the VM to recognize a USB pluged in, etc. Does anyone know if there is any way around that? perhaps there is something other than KVM that can do this?

Hi all... Over the weekend I updated my FC12 installation on my Dell Inspiron laptop to FC13. All seemed to go flawlessly with one exception. When I try to launch Firefox it gives me the following message: Cannot Load XPCOM. Does anyone have any idea what that's all about and how it can be fixed? Thanks in advance. Herb

Xen / KVM Fedora-12 How To Document

Does anyone have any idea where I can locate a 'GOOD' how-to document on implementing Xen and/or KVM on a Fedora-12 system? I'm currently running VMware Server 2.0, but I would like to make the move to the open source virtualization - if possible. What I found is somewhat short on the networking piece. Fedora at South African Software Freedom Day

Hi all, I'm not a Fedora Ambassador or anything, but the folks at my local SFD committee know I use Fedora and were wondering about a Fedora stall at the SFD meeting - http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/2010/Africa/SouthAfrica/Pretoria Is there a South African Ambassador? How to prepare a restart of preupgrade?

Hello List, Running preupgrade-cli on my remote F11 server I received a message at the end of the first stage stating that /boot lacked 54 kB of storage space. I removed /efi and splash.xpm.gz. Now the process should work. But how to proceed from this point? Can I simply do a reboot? Or do I have to restart preupgrade, and if so, would I have to remove any files and directories already produced by the prior preupgrade step? Greetings, Peter
