Firefox and the CCSM 'place' command for Compiz.
by Bill Case
Hi;
I have read that the CCSM 'place' command for Compiz will not be fixed
until Compiz 0.9.0. I am using Compiz 0.8.6. But I am hoping someone
has discovered a workaround for the time being.
My problem is with Firefox only. I want to place Firefox in workspace 2
(viewport 2) on start up. Firefox will start in workspace 2 for only a
fraction of a second then jumps to workspace 1. I have tried a sleep
script set to 15 seconds; and/or using class=firefox-bin as suggested.
Neither really works.
Any other suggestions.

Issues getting CheckPoint SSL Network Extender to work with Fedora 14 32-bit
by Rheault, Rob
My company uses the CheckPoint SSL Network Extender for remote VPN access. However, since upgrading to Fedora 14 I have not been able to connect. I get a window that pops up stating I have been authenticated but during the connection initialization processes nothing happens and I get the following error in my /var/log/messages file.
kernel: [23609.113613] snx[7739]: segfault at 4 ip 0827e85f sp bf921ad0 error 4 in snx[8046000+308000]
I have all the latest updates for Fedora 14 installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

PackageKit and no_proxy
by Chris Smart
Greetings. We have some machines which need a proxy to access the
Internet, but we use a local mirror for Fedora packages (which doesn't
go through the proxy).
The proxy settings are configured in the GNOME proxy tool, which sets
environment variables such as http_proxy and https_proxy, etc. The
no_proxy variable is also automatically set for everything added to
"ignore" in the GNOME proxy tool.
With all this, Yum works perfectly fine. It seems to respect the
system proxy settings, in particular the no_proxy for the local
mirror. Great.
PackageKit however, fails to work with the proxy set. If we turn the
proxy settings off, then it works (as expected). To me, that means
it's not respecting the no_proxy variables, unlike Yum.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to tell it to, or how to fix?
Thanks,
Chris

.xsession-error file getting large?
by Michael D. Setzer II
Found that .xsession-error file had somehow grown to over 2GB.
Found a large number of lines linked to Package kit update applet, so have
disable it.
Noticed that used space on / had gone from normal 14GB used size to
16GB. Didn't quickly find where the space was until using the option to list
the . files. Haven't noticed this in the past, so wondering if others have seen
this?

Miro segfaults at start after latest updates
by oleksandr korneta
Hello,
just wondering is anybody else having problems like me with Miro these
days? Since last week after latest updates it refuses to start and just
segfaults right after starting a downloader.
Starting auto downloader...
/usr/bin/miro: line 27: 10300 Segmentation fault (core dumped)
miro.real "$@"
I've submitted a bugreport
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=668126 but wondering
perhaps there is a quick fix? Just feel very disconnected without miro.

Rescuing a veteran : F14, PowerEdge SC1420, HP w2207h
by Beartooth
As reported here, I've been having lots of grief with an old Dell
machine, running Fedora 14, which can't figure out the size of my
monitor. It has been unable to show any graphic display (or even finish
booting) for months now. (I have been able to ssh into it.)
Today I put the F14 live CD into it, and rebooted without even
taking it out from behind the KVM switch. It found the proper numbers for
the monitor (1680x1050 at 60 Hz) at once, by itself; the display looks
fine.
How do I now get these numbers into the hard drive, where my
install of regular F14 will find and use them??

Receipt scanning and data storage
by linux guy
The management of receipts for purchases has become overwhelming here.
I would like to get a receipt scanner and scan all my receipts and
destroy the paper copies.
I would like to store and be able to retrieve data about the individual
scans, such as scan date, entity, etc. It would be really nice if that
was tied into an accounting system of some sort.
Does anyone know of a Linux app that does this ?
Thanks !

clearing history
by Parshwa Murdia
Like in Windows XP, we can clear the history of the temp files by using the
following commands in the run window:-
%temp%
temp
prefetch
and then deleting all the trash files. Similarly, if we want to clear the
history of these files (if are created) in Fedora, how can we do?
