install.img missing from Fedora-15-i386-DVD.iso
by Mike Williams
Hi there. I've been doing hard disk updates for quite a while and was
able to do that with fedora 14 the same as for the last several
releases, but for fedora 15 there is no install.img file in /images on
the DVD.iso. Here's what ls shows for the last two DVD iso images:
Fedora-14-i386-DVD.iso
ls images
efiboot.img efidisk.img install.img pxeboot TRANS.TBL
Fedora-15-i386-DVD.iso
ls images
pxeboot TRANS.TBL
Where can I get an install.img for fedora 15?
The installation guide looks similar to previous versions and it
discusses install.img:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/15/html/Installation_Guide/s1-...
Someone else asked about this about a week ago and no one offered an
answer. It would be nice to know if there is somewhere to get
install.img for f15 or a pointer to directions to create one. For
some of the systems I'm using fedora on a hd install is by far the
fastest (instead old, slow usb or cd/dvd).
BTW - while fishing an answer to this question I noticed some errors
in the installation guide and filed a bug report, just mentioning it
so no one else takes the time to file one for the same thing.

F15 & Mediatomb
by Jeffrey Ross
I had Mediatomb working under F13 & 14 with no issues, since upgrading
to F15 I am unable to have Mediatomb be seen by the media players.
My mediatomb.conf file is pretty simple -
## Network interface on which the server will run, you need to edit this!
MT_INTERFACE="em1.2"
## User defined command line options that may be passed to the server
MT_OPTIONS=""
## MediaTomb will be started on port 50500
MT_PORT="50500"
## MediaTomb will run as mediatomb
MT_USER="mediatomb"
MT_GROUP="mediatomb"
## Location of the PID file
MT_PIDFILE="/var/run/mediatomb.pid"
## Location of the log file
MT_LOGFILE="/var/log/mediatomb"
## Location of the config file/database
MT_HOME="/etc"
MT_CFGDIR="mediatomb"
and actually its the same configuration file I used with F14 with the
exception that I changed MT_INTERFACE from eth0.2 to em1.2, yes I am
running Dot1Q, 2 tagged interfaces, em1.2 and em1.666 (/sbin/ifconfig
em1.2):
em1.2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:D1:6C:30:A5
inet addr:172.18.19.2 Bcast:172.18.19.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::219:d1ff:fe6c:30a5/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING ALLMULTI MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:22579974 errors:0 dropped:179 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:14320031 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:10432068337 (9.7 GiB) TX bytes:26321952348 (24.5 GiB)
I do not have iptables running and I have disabled sealinux. A quick
check with wireshark shows the broadcast traffic to 239.255.255.250
reaching the (mediatomb) machine but there is no response from mediatomb.
Mediatomb is running, started with the script that came with the install
package and it shows up when running a ps:
# ps ax|grep mediatomb
18578 ? Ssl 0:06 mediatomb -d -u mediatomb -g mediatomb -P
/var/run/mediatomb.pid -l /var/log/mediatomb -m /etc -f mediatomb -p
50500 -e em1.2
I can browse mediatomb via its web interface so its obviously up and
responding to TCP requests and it is also updating its database as I can
see the new files that have been added.
I'm guessing its something simple that was changed in F15, any tips
would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

Thank you very much. I'm downloading Libre
Office right now.
Yes, I just installed F15 64 bit on my 3yo laptop.
Had one heck of a time getting the internet to
work, but I finally got it running.
You'll be hearing other questions from me very
soon.

Does anyone know why the directives in /etc/sysconfig/desktop don't work in
F-15 anymore?

OpenOffice and Fedora

It seems that the future of OO is not so bleak as was originally
thought. OO is now handed to Apache, with the support of Oracle and IBM,
as well as others.

Where is Open Office?
by Mike Flannigan
I'm a new Fedora user.
I understand Open Office is part of the core
distribution, but I can't find it. In Add/
Remove programs "Office/Productivity" is checked,
but only Evolution is in my Office Applications.
How can I start Open Office?
Mike Flannigan
I get the digest version of the list.

CUPS service not starting after upgrade to F15
by Javier Perez
Hi
How do I solve this?
Cups was working perfectly on F14. I upgrade to F15 and now Cups does not
start
[root@bloody cups]# systemctl status cups.service
cups.service - LSB: The CUPS scheduler
Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/cups)
Active: failed since Fri, 03 Jun 2011 05:52:30 -0500; 10s ago
Process: 1394 ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/init.d/cups start (code=exited,
status=1/FAILURE)
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/cups.service
All I get on /var/log/messages is the following
Jun 3 05:52:30 bloody systemd[1]: cups.service: control process exited,
code=exited status=1
Jun 3 05:52:30 bloody systemd[1]: Unit cups.service entered failed state.
How do I trace what is the problem? Have anyone seen this before?

T-Bird won't open URL
by John Wendel
I'm getting the following error when I click on a URL in Tbird.
This is the 3.1.10 Tbird from F14 using Aurora browser (yeah I know,
it's broken and I get to keep the pieces).
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure
code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)
[nsIExternalProtocolService.loadUrl]" nsresult: "0x80004005
(NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame ::
chrome://communicator/content/contentAreaClick.js :: openLinkExternally
:: line 188" data: no]
Anyone have any words of wisdom?
Thanks,
