activate a service?
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
Just installed f16.
I've seen this answered before but I can't find it anywhere.
After installing tigervnc-server
/lib/systemd/system/vncserver@.service arrived.
None of the old chkconfig/service stuff seems to works anymore.
Shortcut: how do I turn this on?
Best answer: where are the docs?
Thanks to any and all
Thx

System broken after upgrade to kernel-3.3.2-1.fc16.i686
by Jonathan Ryshpan
I have just upgraded two systems to kernel-3.3.2-1. One system (x86_64
hardware) upgraded flawlessly. The other (i686 hardware) now won't
boot. The grub menu comes up allowing me to choose between:
kernel-3.3.2-1.f16.i686 -- which fails (see below)
kernel-3.3.0-0.f16.i686 -- which works
When I choose kernel-3.3.2-1, there is what seems like an exceptionally
long pause, the system briefly displays some garbage, and then these
messages appear:
dracut warning no root device "block:/dev/disk/by-uuid/2d...af"
found
dracut warning no root device "block:/dev/disk/by-uuid/2d...af"
found
dropping to debug shell
sh: 0 can't access tty: job control turned off
dracut:/#
In fact, as blkid shows the device (partition) that the system appears
to be looking for is not there. However all the partitions that should
be on the system are there, including the partition that is normally
mounted on /boot. Which must be so, since the previous kernel starts
OK.
Questions:
1. What's going on here?
2. How can I fix it?
3. How can I prevent this in the future?
Many thanks - jon

oovoo.com
by Gregory P. Ennis
Dear List,
I was asked to assist connecting a Fedora linux system for video
conferencing with oovoo.com. It is apparent that they support Mac and
Windows.
Does anyone have any experience in using the Mac installation for oovoo
for Fedora? Can anyone make recommendations for connections that allow
video conferencing with Fedora.
Thanks much

Problems starting net-snmp
by Alex
Hi,
I'm trying to get started with net-snmpd and I can't figure out how to
get it started. I ran the "snmpconf -g basic_setup" script (after the
default didn't work), and I can't get it to listen on any interface
other than localhost:
# netstat -tap|grep snmp
tcp 0 0 localhost:smux *:*
LISTEN 28588/snmpd
I've tried modifying the /etc/sysconfig/snmpd file to include my IP
address, but it still doesn't work. I've tried running it with the
most basic options with my IP address and it still doesn't work:
# snmpd -c snmpd.conf-new 64.XXX.YYY.5:161
# ps ax|grep snmp
28588 ? S 0:00 snmpd -c snmpd.conf-new 64.XXX.YYY.5:161
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

Trouble with ddclient
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I use ddclient to update my dynamic IP address on the free DynDNS
service, but it seems to have stopped working. I only noticed when my
host name stopped being resolved correctly, so it could have happened a
while back but the IP assignment hadn't changed so it passed under the
radar.
On running it by hand I get the following in /var/log/messages:
Apr 23 18:32:27 bree dbus[970]: [system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.3672" (uid=500 pid=17906 comm="systemctl restart ddclient.target ") interface="org.freedesktop.systemd1.Manager" member="RestartUnit" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.systemd1" (uid=0 pid=1 comm="/sbin/init ")
Apr 23 18:32:27 bree dbus-daemon[970]: dbus[970]: [system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_call", sender=":1.3672" (uid=500 pid=17906 comm="systemctl restart ddclient.target ") interface="org.freedesktop.systemd1.Manager" member="RestartUnit" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination="org.freedesktop.systemd1" (uid=0 pid=1 comm="/sbin/init ")
Apr 23 18:36:10 bree systemd[1]: PID file /var/run/ddclient/ddclient.pid not readable (yet?) after start.
Apr 23 18:36:10 bree systemd[1]: Unit ddclient.service entered failed state.
This is F16 fully updated. SELinux is enabled. Nothing in ddclient.conf
has changed in several years.
Thoughts?

Firewall disabled; yet "connection refused"
by Braden McDaniel
I'm trying to set up dovecot on a fresh installation of Fedora 16.
This is an obvious problem:
$ telnet rail 143
Trying 10.0.0.21...
telnet: connect to address 10.0.0.21: Connection refused
localhost works:
$ telnet localhost 143
Trying ::1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 LITERAL+ SASL-IR LOGIN-REFERRALS ID
ENABLE IDLE STARTTLS AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=LOGIN] Dovecot ready.
After first trying to permit traffic on port 143 in the firewall
configuration, I've now disabled it altogether:
$ systemctl status iptables.service
iptables.service - IPv4 firewall with iptables
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/iptables.service; disabled)
Active: inactive (dead)
start condition failed at Sat, 27 Mar 1999 03:25:13
-0500; 13 years and 0 months ago
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/iptables.service
$ systemctl status ip6tables.service
ip6tables.service - IPv6 firewall with ip6tables
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/ip6tables.service; disabled)
Active: inactive (dead)
start condition failed at Sat, 27 Mar 1999 03:25:13
-0500; 13 years and 0 months ago
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/ip6tables.service
? yet I still get "connection refused" as above.
If not the firewall, what's the culprit here?

Sound input Fedora 16
by Roger
For my USB mic to work I have to go to <Activities> enter 'Sound' in the
little diaog top right of screen and in the display panel choose AK5370
I/F A/D converter.
As soon as the Display closes it defaults to Internal Audio Analog Stereo.
What is the name of the app that controls the sound input?
where is the config file?
can I set default to the AK5370?
thanks in advance

Hi all,
I'm using Fedora 17 on my workstation but I'm having issue to upgrade my

"yum update --skip-broken".
