wpa supplicant
by JD
wpa_supplicant is unable to associate with my phone (which acts as an
ad-hoc peer).
I have set up the wpa_supplicant.conf on F16 as follows:
network={
ssid="MyPhoneSSID"
bssid=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
scan_ssid=1
mode=AD-HOC
key_mgmt=NONE
group=WEP104 WEP40
wep_key0="wep_key_0"
wep_key1="wep_key_0"
wep_key2="wep_key_0"
wep_key3="wep_key_0"
wep_tx_keyidx=0
}
Association never takes place.
However, my Apple/OS_X laptop has no problem associating with same phone.
So, what is wrong with my wpa_supplicant.conf file?

"No driver found" when installing F14 to a 2TB drive using netinstall
by Adam Zilkie
Hi,
I am getting the following error message during my F14 installation:
“No driver found”
“Unable to find any devices of the type needed for this installation type. Would you like to manually select your driver or use a driver disk?”
I get this error only when installing to a 2TB hard drive and using the F14 netinstall. The installation works fine using a smaller hard drive (250GB). The installation also works fine using the 2TB hard drive when using the F14 DVD image, and also when using the F16 netinstall image.
Thanks for your help.

Fedora 16 and the 3.3.1-3 kernel
by Mark Haney
It appears that the latest kernel (3.3.1-3) for Fedora 16 dies
spectacularly on my netbook with these errors:
udevd[187]: timeout '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/sda3'
udevd[187]: timeout: killing '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/sda3' [332]
udevd[187]: timeout: killing '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/sda3' [332]
udevd[187]: '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/sda3' [332] terminated by
signal 9 (Killed)
udevd[185]: timeout '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/dm-0'
udevd[185]: timeout: killing '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/dm-0' [385]
udevd[185]: '/sbin/blkid -o udev -p /dev/dm-0' [385] terminated by
signal 9 (Killed)
IIRC the signal 9 calls there are my having to power off the system
manually.
One other thing, in each case the system mentions something about not
finding the LVM volume and drops to a 'dracut:' prompt. That prompt is
new to me so I've not really messed with it.
I can say that the previous kernels boot just fine (3.3.0-8) and I have
no trouble with them. Any ideas on what I can look at? Maybe file a
bug report?

Can anyone explain this? How can it be fixed? Do some services need to

Which Windows for Virtual Box ? (F16, USB, etc)
by linux guy
I have a few proprietary Windows only applications that I need to run
from time to time. These applications require access to USB port
peripherals.
I'm running F16 on a Dell XPS17 i7, 16 GB, etc.
I'm hoping to get these applications running in Windows in VB.
Which version of Windows should I install ? Any other tips ?
Thanks !

What is fglrx and Radeon and why do I want it?
by Alex
Hi,
I have an ATI Radeon 5700 Series video card and after a recent package
update on fedora15 x86_64, video refresh is very slow. After doing
some reading, I see fglrx is something I need? When booting, these
messages are displayed:

You can try to rebuild and install them by by calling

upgrading to fc16 video or gtk3 problem?
by JD
After upgrading from fc14 to fc16 using DVD iso,
I booted up after the upgrade, and tried to log in
on the gnome welcome screen.
Well, I got the blue screen but my desktop never
came up and a banner popped up
Oooops - something went wrong ... logout and try again.
I was never able to go beyond that no matter how many
times I retried.
Then I performed the updates.
After the updates, I rebooted.
Now I get no gnome welcome screen.
The screen stays blank, and the
disk activity light on the computer remains on,
until I press the Return key. After that the
disk activity light goes out, and screen remains blank.
PS: my graphics chip is the legacy Radeon Mobility 9600/M10
I tried to switch to any one of the vty's
(Control-Alt F2 or F3 or F4) to no avail. Nothing happens.
Any ideas what to look at and fix in single user mode?
Thanx,
JD

xorg (screen resolution) in F14
by Reg Clemens
For reasons that I don't need to go into here, I keep copies of
Fedora F6, F11, and F14 on different partitions of a disk. I will
be adding F16 to this collection in the next few weeks.
But, in looking at my F14 installation, I note an X11 problem.
Im not sure who is maintaining the Feodra X11 these days
so Ill ask the question here.
My xorg.conf is the same for all of these installations, and the
mode line reads
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
and older X11s chooses the "1280x1024" resolution as my default.
In F14 it chooses "1024x768" which screws up the screen organization
for testing software.
Now some quick experiments show that if I connect the monitor
directly to the computer (rather than thru the kvm), this works
fine with F14. So it is the kvm that is causing the problem. But the
kvm is too dumb to program in any other manner, so the question
is, is there a way to FORCE F14 to use the mode I want, or to SET
whatever variable it is using to determine that the higher resolution
is acceptable?
I have tried a few things (like only one thing on the Modes line) with
no success, so I'm looking for someone who knows more about the
internals of X11 than I do.

[X-post] Fedora Tour is in need of web developers!
by Ankur Sinha
Hello folks!
Well, the title says it all. Fedora Tour[1], which we recently decided
to make a web application needs web developers. Ironic eh? The thing is:
none of the current Fedora Tour team members have ever done web
development before. We’re learning, but the changes with HTML5, CSS3 and
Javascript have really steepened the learning curve for us. At this
time, we’d like an established web developer to come in and help us
reduce the learning time and get down to the implementation as soon as
possible.
SO!
- Are you a web developer?
- Do you have some free cycles?
- Do you want to work on a brand new, *awesome* project?
** Give us a shout today!!
You can either catch us on #fedora-tour on Freenode, or you can ping us
on the mailing list[2]. I’m around on quite a few fedora IRC channels,
so you can also catch me personally if you want. My nick is
“FranciscoD“.
The wiki page[3] for fedora tour contains all the info you’d need.
Note: This is only an announcement mail. Please do not reply to it.

fc16 and bash_logout
by Barry
I'm trying to run a script on logout from FC16. I've got the default
Gnome3.
I wrote the script into my .bash_logout file, but it didn't work, as it
did in FC15. Running .bash_logout executes the script just fine.
Thanks
Barry
