Yes, I sure will. I'm anxious to see what people
have said. I've been away from my computer today and
need to leave again here in 15 minutes, so it will
be later tonight before I get to see these messages.
I get the digest version also, so I don't see the
messages right away.
Thanks a bunch guys and gals for responding. I'll
go through the messages tonight.

Proxy/network configuration prevents yum and firefox but not konqueror (FC17)
by Don Levey
So I can't wrap my head around what I might have done to create this
situation, or to back out of it.
I have one machine on my home network that I protect via a squid proxy -
my kids' machine. Somehow, something I (or they) did created a
situation where I cannot connect externally via Firefox, and cannot
connect to any repository via yum. However, Konqueror doesn't seem to
respect or use the proxy configuration, and can connect anywhere without
restriction (regardless of the system settings).
I don't think it's truly the proxy itself, though. I configured another
machine to use it without issue; Firefox and Yum both work without a
hiccup. What's more, disabling or completely removing the proxy
configuration on the problem PC doesn't seem to alleviate the problem.
I'm not even sure where I should look to gather more diagnostic info;
any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
-Don

qtiplot
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
Severql persons asked for qtiplot working with fedora 16.
I recompiled and installed (from src.fc16)
EmfEngine.spec liborigin2.spec QTeXEngine.spec
Unfortunately whenI try to compile qtiplot (rpmbuild -bb qtiplot.spec)
from (qtiplot-0.9.8.3-1.fc15.src.rpm), I get:
mv -f libqwt.a ../lib/
make[2]: Leaving directory
`/home/pdupre/rpmbuild/BUILD/qtiplot-0.9.8.3/3rdparty/qwt/src'
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/home/pdupre/rpmbuild/BUILD/qtiplot-0.9.8.3/3rdparty/qwt'
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.SgU2TC (%build)
RPM build errors:
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.SgU2TC (%build)
It means that the compilation seems OK, but just the build fails.
Any idea?
Thank.

Lockups with F17 kernel 3.5.0-2 on Lenovo ThinkPad T61P
by Tim Evans
Getting fairly frequent (couple of times a day) lock ups with the latest
F17 kernel on my ThinkPad T61P. Couple of times, it was when clicking a
link in a Thunderbird e-mail; others, the machine was idle, still
others, on putting the machine to sleep.
No such lockups with 3.4.6-2.
Not quite sure how to characterize this specifically enough to file a
bug report. Anyone else seeing this?

ATI X1800 XT drivers for Fedora
by Dick Holland
Does anyone have direct experience of setting up an ATI X1800 XT under
Fedora? I have seen horror stories on the web about buggy drivers.
What is the best source (and version) for drivers?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Network problems and more!
by Richard Shaw
Ok, trying to make a long story short about my wife's Acer laptop...
Most recently on 3.3 kernels first the nm-applet (or is it called
something else in gnome-shell?) would die but networking would
continue to work for a while but then eventually it would stop too.
Usually a "systemctl restart NetworkManager.service" would fix it.
With 3.4 kernels things have gotten much worse. Sometimes she can't
even log in all the way or networking doesn't work off the bat. Going
through /var/log/messages she's got a ton of the
"!DBUS_G_PROXY_DESTROYED" type messages and even dbus seems to die,
unfortunately trying to "restart" dbus doesn't seem to help
Searching for the dbus issue sends me to BZ#829258 which is marked as
a duplicate of 826706, which is marked as a duplicate of 817851, which
doesn't really sound like my problem, especially since the "fix" is
supposedly already in stable and the laptop is fully updated.
Also, possibly unrelated, she GDM seems to die once. It will come up
and if you wait for about 10 seconds it will go back to the VT and
then gdm will come up again. If she attempts to login without waiting
for gdm to come back it kicks her out and she has to login again.
Where do I start with this one? WAF is dropping rapidly...
Thanks,
Richard

Fedora 17 Upgrade...FINALLY!
by EGO-II.1
Ok so FINALLY I've gone ahead and gotten my laptop upgraded to Fedora
17! But I now am trying to play .mp4 / .flv/ .avi movies on it and
getting an error message telling me that there are plugins missing. I
also get error messages when I try to play mp3's. Even though I get
system sounds. Is there something I've missed? I've followed most of the
online forums which recommed installing something called RPM Fusion, but
when I did that and then tried the Movie Player again I got the same
window now telling me that there's an ASF demuxer missing........(sigh!)
why couldn't the building of these distros have included this stuff? I'm
getting tired of having to search for things that should be included
with an OS, and I'm not realy bashing or complaining to anyone in
particular, but it just seems to me that these things should be
"standard" no?....I mean whether it's a $82,000.00 or a $4,000.00 car
they BOTH come with a steering wheel, brakes, windows, headlights,
brake-lights a trunk, windshield wipers etc.....those things are
STANDARD.....why cannot these distros be the same?.....if it's a
licensig issue or some sort of violaton of some technology thing, why
can't someone create the substitute?.....kind of like how they came out
with LightSpark & GNash to replace Flash.....it's just kind of annoying
is all But any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
In Advance....

I've checked the homepage but found nothing....just curious....
