Like others, I agree with this distinction. I could not
get Fedora configured like I need it and I could not get
Ubuntu installed at all.

I need to be able to see the other computer folders, copy file
to and from the computers, do Winpop-like IM messaging, etc.
I backup one machine to the other - sometimes with the GUI and
often times with Perl scripts or batch files.
I'm no expert on command line interfacing, but I do a lot of
perl programming and execution via the command line. I always
have one or two terminal boxes running.
I will contact you when I get going on Linux again - probably
through this list. I sure appreciate the offer for help.

I know I started Samba once - or at least I tried to.
I think it worked, but I still couldn't find the
place where I could change the Workgroup.

Refering to current message headers in mutt macros
by Suvayu Ali
Hi Mutt using Fedora users,
I am trying to write a mutt macro where I need to refer to a header from
the current message. The use case is something like this:
macro pager <key> "<func-call> <string-with-message-id-or-subject>\n"
Is there anyway to do that?
PS: If I could run a shell command on the current message to get the
info, that would work too.

This is a description of it:

I did try that "nouveau.noaccel=1" solution, but I don't
think I got it done correctly.

It means my home network was not working with Fedora.
The network did not see Fedora and Fedora did not see
the other users on the network.

That is true, but apparently this fbcon problem is a long-
standing problem. It may not be a Linux problem per se.
Many think the graphics card people have it out for Linux.
I'm not sure if that is true or not.

Actually I posted back on 6/4/2011, but I certainly
don't post often.

I did not intend for it to be a rant, but I am disappointed
that I can't get Linux working. I consider myself fairly
technically savvy and I think I have a fair amount of
stick-to-it ivness. It just isn't working out for me.
I think I need to learn the unix command language and
structure before I take on the task of installing Linux.
Thanks for the offer to work out my problems. I'll try
to get that done next time I try it.

Missing SELinux policy?
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi
I have checked my dmesg output and I have saw something that I can't
explain - because there are no documentations about. Maybe someone can
explain it what it means, and if necessary how can I or should, or
shouldn't set a policy for this.
So these are the lines in dmesg -
Permission wake_alarm in class capability2 not defined in policy.
[ 6.051898] SELinux: Permission block_suspend in class capability2
not defined in policy.
Thanks,
Zoltan

calibre update in f17?
by Tom Horsley
Is a newer calibre likely to be released soon for f17,
or is going to f18 or installing from source the only
way I'll see a new calibre?
Just asking because I desperately need to use the
Modify ePub plugin, which won't install on the latest
available f17 calibre :-(.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I had never heard of that until now. I do
see than on the Fedora site:
http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-options#formats I think I might
try that. Why not? Mike

At least the Nvidia GeForce GTX560 Ti is showing up in
my Device Manager. I'm guessing there may be a hardware
problem of some kind, but I don't have a lot of other
evidence of that.
> What shop you mean ' no home network'? I've got an entire home LAN setup. Windows and Linux. It's not out of the box however. You will need SAMBA for that. At least for seeing/interacting with Windows machines. It's really not that complicated to get that setup. I, or anyone, here can probably walk you through that.

Yeah, I just meant I could not connect on my wired
home network. It saw the internet and had an icon
that said Windows Network, but it gave that error
"unable to mount location" no matter what I did.
It might have been as simple as changing the workgroup
from Workgroup to MSHOME, but I couldn't get that
done either.

Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530 laptop SD card reader not detected in Fedora 17
by debit2005@gmail.com
Hello,
I have been using Lenovo thinkpad Edge E530 for last two weeks with
fedora 17 installed on it.
$ uname -a
Linux maxico-lappy 3.5.1-1.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Aug 9 17:50:43 UTC
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$
Everything is working with out any problem. But it's multi card 4-in-1
reader (MMC, SD, SDHC, SDXC) is not getting detected in Fedora 17.
lspci|grep -i mmc and dmesg|grep -i sdhc give nothing.
There could be below two reasons for it
1. Hardware problem
2. Fedora 17 kernel does not have latest driver for this
latest lenovo thinkpad edge e530 card reader
I tried in other lenovo thinkpad Edge E420 with Fedora 17 and it also
detects my NIKON D3100 SDHC card properly.
[root@localhost ~]# dmesg|grep -i sdhc
[ 3.618403] sdhci: Secure Digital Host Controller Interface driver
[ 3.618406] sdhci: Copyright(c) Pierre Ossman
[ 3.618682] sdhci-pci 0000:03:00.0: SDHCI controller found
[1180:e823] (rev 4)
[ 3.621406] mmc0: SDHCI controller on PCI [0000:03:00.0] using DMA
[ 94.990395] mmc0: new SDHC card at address e624
[root@localhost ~]#
[root@localhost ~]# lsmod |grep -i mmc
mmc_block 27077 2
mmc_core 102497 2 sdhci,mmc_block
If anybody have faced this problem with Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530
laptop SD card reader with linux, please let me know the solution of
this problem.
Thanks,
