f19 xfce 32bit system-config-network
by Paul Allen Newell
Hello:
Trying to get a machine up and running on F19 to test it. As the subject
says, 32-bit F19 with Xfce.
I yum installed system-config-network as I have done in past releases
and nothing got added to the Settings -> Administrator pull-downs. I
tried running it directly as root and get what appears to be a "text ui"
version rather than the gui I am used to.
Searching online has just managed to confused me even more. The closest
thing I can see is
"http://www.savelono.com/linux/fedora-15-16-17-18-19-missing-system-config..."
which suggests rebuilding using "-with gui". But since the site claims
the result is "system-config-network-tui-1.6.10-1.fc18.noarch.rpm" and
"tui" sure looks it means "text ui", I am not certain what is being
done. Plus, I never gone to the level of rpmbuild and therefore cannot
tell what is right or wrong.
I wanted to know if anyone knew what happened to the gui for
system-config-network and, if it is gone, what is the new application to
use? Or can someone vouch that the above-mentioned website is a valid
solution (I am giving the author the benefit of the doubt in regards to
good intentions, just want to make sure there isn't a typo or
mis-understanding on my part that I do not know enough to catch)
Thanks in advance,
Paul

F19 keeps crashing on Lenovo Thinkpad T430 (KDE)
by Oliver Ruebenacker
Hello,
I recently installed Fedora 19 on my Lenovo Thinkpad T430, running
KDE, and now have multiple crashes per day. Most crashes are hard
freezes, though today I also had a kernel panic.
Any idea how I can diagnose and fix this?
Thanks!
Take care
Oliver

How can I install 32-bit packages in 64-bit system?
by Georgios Petasis
Hi all,
Up to fedora 18, I was used to install 32-bit packages in my 64-bit
system by adding the ".i686" as suffix for the package.
However, this does not seem to work for some packages in fedora 19. For
example:
# yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk.i686
Loaded plugins: auto-update-debuginfo, langpacks, refresh-packagekit
adobe-linux-x86_64 | 951 B 00:00
fedora/19/x86_64/metalink | 32 kB 00:00
fedora | 4.2 kB 00:00
updates/19/x86_64/metalink | 30 kB 00:00
updates | 4.6 kB 00:00
(1/2): updates/19/x86_64/primary_db | 6.8 MB 00:07
(2/2): fedora/19/x86_64/primary_db | 17 MB 00:12
adobe-linux-x86_64/primary | 1.2 kB 00:00
fedora/19/x86_64/group_gz | 384 kB 00:00
updates/19/x86_64/group_gz | 385 kB 00:00
adobe-linux-x86_64 2/2
No package java-1.7.0-openjdk.i686 available.
Error: Nothing to do
How can I fix this? I had similar problems with boost-static (due to a
missing dependency), and I downloaded the rpm file & manually installed
it. Is there a better solution?

How to start a vncserver on reboot?
by Georgios Petasis
Hi all,
I cannot manage to get fedora 19 to start a vnc server on reboot.
I have tried various approaches:
a) edit /etc/systemd/system/vncserver@:1.service
It does not work. It kills any vncserver I am running at :1, but *never*
starts a new one.
systemctrl status vncserver@:1.service reports the service as dead, but
without any error message.
b) I wrote a small bash script that starts vncserver at :1, and set a
cronjob on the user. The server runs ok when I run the script from the
terminal (I can see gnome desktop in it), but gnome does not start from
the cronjob. (I have even set a sleep of 30 seconds to delay the start
of the vncserver). The vncserver starts, but it is empty.
Method b worked in fedora 18, but not anymore in fedora 19.
What is the way to start a tiger vnc server at reboot for a user?
Also, how can I enforce gnome "classic"?

Folder /run/http-palo deleted after reboot...
by Georgios Petasis
Hi all,
I have added a new service which starts a second httpd instance in
fedora 19. The pid of the process is stored in /run/http-palo directory,
and my problem is that this directory disappears after each reboot.
How can I stop the system from deleting this folder in /run?

It seems every time I log in I'm getting notified of certificates

Can someone edify me as to where to look for an explanation?

installing latex in F19
by Andras Simon
I hoped that installing
texlive-latex
texlive-latex-bin-bin-svn14050.0
would be enough for having a working latex. But running latex gives
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013)
restricted \write18 enabled.
kpathsea: Running mktexfmt latex.fmt
/usr/bin/mktexfmt: line 395:
/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/texconfig/tcfmgr: No such file or
directory
fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.
I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'!
(Actually, there is a /usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/web2c/fmtutil.cnf,
belonging to
texlive-kpathsea-svn30218.0-0.1.fc19.noarch.)
Are there some post-installation steps I should do?
