This does not give anything.
However, I finally installed qcad-3.4.5-linux-x86_32.run ((http://www.ribbonsoft.com/en/qcad-downloads-trial
which seems to be GPL. If it is correct then it may come back to the
distribution!

Yes, I did that Monday afternoon. I did not watch it continually, but I saw no indication of trouble until the boot screen came up with no Fedora-20.
Important question... Given my answer above, is what Chris advises...

... still the proper things to do?
Chris's part 1 raises another question. My system was new in March 2013. Fedora-18 was installed. Whatever grub came with that is the grub that was installed. I ran "yum update" every week. In July or August, I updated to Fedora-19. I continue to run "yum update" every week. So why is my grub so out-of date? Doesn't the "yum update" take care of that? By the way, I don't recall doing anything to customize my grub boot parameters. Could this have something to do with this being a dual-boot system?
thanks,
Bill.

F18: new boot-up sequence, but old partitions still in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg !?!?!?
by Rob
Hi,
I have F18 on an i686 PC.
I have changed my boot up sequence from logical volumes to regular partitions.
Upon regenerating the grub2 boot process, the grub2 keeps creating a /boot/grub2/grub.cfg file that refers to the non-existing logical volumes. Hence, the boot process fails with a dracut-initqueue error.
Here is what I have done:
The system partitions are in logical volumes on a small hard disk (/dev/VolGroup/lv_root, /dev/VolGroup/lv_var, /dev/VolGroup/lv_tmp etc.).
The home directory is on a separate big 1GB harddisk as regular partition.
The small system harddisk showed signs of break down; I repartitioned the 1GB disk to also include the system:
sda1 256MB /boot
sda2 4GB /
sda3 1GB swap
sda4 Extended
sda5 4GB /var
sda6 1GB /tmp
sda7 50GB /srv
sda8 871GB /home
For that I copied all the files from the logical volumes to the new partitions.
I then prepared the new boot sequence after booting from a live USB boot medium:
# mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot
# mount /dev/sda5 /mnt/var
# mount /dev/sda6 /mnt/tmp
# mount -t proc none /mnt/proc
# mount -t sysfs sys /mnt/sys
# mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev
# chroot /mnt /bin/bash
Then I do in the chroot I do:
# grub2-install /dev/sda
# grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
# exit
then 'unmount' everything and reboot.
In the boot I
dracut-initqueue[109]: Warning: Could not boot.
I also regenerated the initramfs file with dracut; to no avail.
Why does the /boot/grub2/grub.cfg still have entries to the logical volumes?
(See below).
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Rob.

Entirely off Topic php, angularJS
by Roger
After googling all morning so far I defer to the experts in Linux
I'm running Fedora 19 for web development work and now find I must learn
the Google web framework AngularJS and Slim.
I can get a basic Angular setup working on my dev system with apache server.
Have watched and read tutorials but none explain the fundamentals and
many are using windows for dev so leave out information that windows
handles automatically.
So if I develop an app in AngularJS and ftp or cPanel to the shared
server. Does the shared server need to have AngularJS installed or will
the files generated simply run using the server's javascript.
Thanks for any assistance

NVIDIA vgaswitcheroo doesn't work
by carachi diego
Hello,
I installed yesterday on my laptop the last version of Fedora with 3.12.8
kernel.
However I discover that the discrete GPU (NVIDIA GT520M) remain always on,
reducing battery performance.
I tried to switch it off but seem that vgaswitcheroo doesn't work on it.
How can I solve this problem?
here some commands:
[root@Fedora20 ~]# lspci | grep VGA

Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

dns/dhcp client - hooks??
by bruce
Hi.
Trying to test/figure out if there's a way to update local dns
zones/data with the data from the dhclient. (Don't have control of the
dhcp server process)!!
As I understand it, there's a process/way to use dhclient-scripts to
generate hook functions that can be called, which can then dynamically
update the dns using nsupdate...
But I can't yet find any sample of hook functions/scripts to get a
feel for how to do this.
Thoughts/Comments.
Thanks Guys..

somewhat OT: convert powerpoint presentation to Beamer/LaTeX on F20
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I am using F20, all updated, but not completely sure this is relevant.
I have vast pages of Powerpoint presentations given to me by
colleagues. I of course don't like using them as is (LibreOffice seems
to be having trouble with Math generated by PPT for these slides). I
wonder if there is some easy way to convert these slides to LaTeX. I
have no problems touching them in beamer after a potential conversion. I
just don't have the time to type 500 pages up in beamer.
Many thanks!
Ranjan

Nagios plugin to check lvm volumes
by Mark Haney
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I'm looking for a plugin for Nagios that checks free space on ext4 LVM
volumes like 'check_disk' does for standard ones. I've seen a couple,
but one only determines the status of the volume (OK or NOT OK) or
only works with ext2/3 volumes. Someone on the Icinga list (which is
what I'm using along with Nagios plugins) mentioned SNMP and MIBs, but
surely someone has come up with a plugin to check LVM space.
Unfortunately, the VMs I inherited were all built using LVM volumes
for the root filesystem, which I found years ago to be just about the
silliest thing anyone could do, so I'm stuck with what I've got for
the moment.
Any ideas?
