ssh/dhclient
by bruce
Got a test iisue/problem.
The situation is a group of test servers in a network that's managed
by an upstream DHCP server.
I have no control of the upstream DHCP allocation of IP addresses.
All the test servers (5) are running centos 6.5 as a test. (I know,
this is a fed channel, but the issues shoudl be the same!!)
The test boxes, run the nic/eth0.
The boxes run NetworkManager
All the boxes have the same /etc/resolv.conf
All the boxes can ping each other
All the boxes are on a subnet of 192.168.5.x
The issue I'm trying to track down, is that one box can't seem to
access the external 'net, ie ping www.google.com doesn't return, and
an actual test of ping 1.2.3.4 where the 1.2.3.4 is the actual ip of
google.com doesn't get processed.
I'm running/testing all of this remotely, so I was trying to see if
there's a way to change/force a new ipaddress for the box in question.
I'm curious to see if changing the ip on the box, will result in the
test ping working...
Thoughts/comments things to check??
Thanks

Converting pdfs to mobi
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
Much thanks for the great suggestions on tools to use to edit pdf files.
As a followup, are there tools that can convert pdfs to mobi format?
Amazon, as part of its Kindle service, does provide a pdf to azw (Amazon's
version of mobi) conversion service:
- email the pdf as an attachment to the email address assigned to the
respective Kindle device
- put "convert" in the subject line
- within a few moments your Kindle account lists the converted pdf
The results are generally good. Once in a while, there is a pdf file that
was produced either from images (hence no text) or odd formating. In those
cases the conversion results are weak.
My interest would be in bypassing Amazon's service.
Thanks.

Convert a pdf
by Roger
Hello
I have several very lengthy pdf documents which I need to adjust.
I need to remove the first 30-50 pages of cruft and the last 5-20 pages
and several middle pages then save the altered document either as pdf or
something else.
Can this be done with convert or is there another suitable tool in
Fedora 19?
Thanks for any pointers

gphoto2 only as root -
by Bob Goodwin
Now I have another problem where user "bobg" is not authorized!
[bobg@box10 ~]$ gphoto2 --get-all-files
*** Error: No camera found. ***
For debugging messages, please use the --debug option.
Debugging messages may help finding a solution to your problem.
If you intend to send any error or debug messages to the gphoto
developer mailing list <gphoto-devel(a)lists.sourceforge.net>, please run
gphoto2 as follows:
env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --debug-logfile=my-logfile.txt
--get-all-files
Please make sure there is sufficient quoting around the arguments.
But the camera is detected:
[bobg@box10 ~]$ gphoto2 --auto-detect
Model Port
----------------------------------------------------------
Nikon Coolpix S3100 (PTP mode) usb:001,004
So I tried installing Digikam.
It also "fails to connect" to the camera although it is listed under
"Import."
All of these things work in Fedora 19, and I am not required to enter my
password for so many things like simply doing "Restart or Shutdown." So
why do I even bother trying to run Fedora-20? I dunno, masochism perhaps?
Any help with the gphoto2 problem appreciated.
Bob

yumBackend.py
by Phil Dobbin
Hi, all.
I know this has been discussed on here before but I'm struggling to stop
'yumBackend.py' hogging the CPU & sending the load averages over 2.00.
I've disabled it via the GUI in Software & rebooted but it's still
running every five minutes.
Is there a way of dealing with this via the cli? This is on Fedora 20.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Phil...

Maybe this is not correct. In fact frenchb.ldf is missing in texlive-babel
(as well as frenchb.cfg)
while is was present in fedora 18. I cannot find a frenchb.ldf while
it seems to be required by lyx!

texlive
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
It looks like that in the fedora20, in the package texlive-babel
the following file:
/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/latex/babelbib/french.ldf
has been replaced by:
/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/latex/babelbib/francais.ldf
which becomes incompatible with lyx which only manages french.
Is it intentional or a bug?
Thank.

No irq handler for vector (irq -1)
by Peter G.
Since I upgraded to kernel-3.12.8-300.fc20.x86_64 a couple of days ago (I
have never seen this with any other Fx or kernel), I am getting this message
appearing in the notifications applet in the systray.
It appears every time I resume the computer from suspend. I have never seen
it from a straight start.
Why is this happening? As I said, this is a new phenomenon that never
occurred before.

f20 - difference between i386 and x86_64 distros
by Robert Moskowitz
As I have mentioned, my x86_64 install on my Lenovo is a bit of a hack.
Hopefully things will be better for f21, but meanwhile...
I am continuing to have problems. Most recently, Gnome keeps crashing
even without suspend attempts.
Soooo, I DO have a drive with f20 i386 installed, and I am seriously
thinking of falling back to it. "All" I have to do, is book from it,
sync my files (mail mostly) from the x86_64 drive, and apply updates.
But what do I loose running i386 on a 64 bit system? That is the
serious question here.

When I run yum update, this is the type of error I get.
What should I do to come back to a normal situtation?
