I am doing this from the GUI. I am using Gnome. When I poweroff from the
command line no authentication is required.

all in laser printer
by Ger van Dijck
Hi ,
I did find a simple solution : The HP 4620 all in office printer .
This low cost thing functionates perfect in a network and I run all
utilities under Windowd 8.1 Professional and Fedora 20 (in dual boot !)
without any problems on Dell Inspiron Lap Tops and as you asked in A4 .
Greetings ,
Ger van Dijck .

OT; Sorry about sending multiple messages
by Fred
I'm terribly sorry about spamming the list. Was composing a message in
claws mail and got interrupted several times. Don't know how it happened
but the mailer apparently sent out a bunch of partial messages. Have to
check settings...been using it long time without trouble???
Sending this from evolution...

Screen Brightness Keys Not Working - Thinkpad W540 & Fedora 20
by CS DBA
Hi All;
Just setup a Thinkpad W540, most everything is working well. I did not
install any nvidia drivers (kmod-nvidia, nvidia downloaded binaries,
etc) just using the default driver - not sure if this has anything to do
with it but Fn-F5 / Fn-F6 dont do anything...
Thanks in advance

Hard Freezes with F20 on Lenovo ThinkPad T430
by Oliver Ruebenacker
Hello,
I'm having multiple hard freezes a day with Fedora 20 on a Lenovo
ThinkPad T430. Display stops moving, even mouse cursor, with no previous
warning. I have the problem since Fedora 19.
Any ideas?
I'm copying a few lines from /var/log/messages showing lines from some
time before the crash until the restart (see below).
Thanks!
Best,
Oliver

after upgrading fedora rawhide this morning, no graphical desktop
by Robert P. J. Day
recently, i upgraded my ASUS G74S laptop to fedora rawhide and it
was running nicely. then this morning, i did another "yum update",
which appeared to update well over 200 packages (including a slightly
newer kernel), after which, when i booted, i had no graphical desktop
anymore, just the little blue and white fedora logo.
i can still switch to VC2 and log in at the command line (where i am
now), so i can certainly check log files, but i don't see anything
immediately amiss.
i rebooted both to the earlier rawhide kernel, and even back to the
latest fedora 20 official kernel -- same result, the fedora logo in
the middle of the screen on VC1, but the ability to log in on another
virtual console.
has anyone else run into this? i have an nvidia graphics card, and
am running the nouveau driver. i'll keep poking around the log files,
and if you have any suggestions, i'm all ears.

I'm the maintainer of the G4L disk imaging project, and have been contacted
by a user that has these machine, but they are freezing on the kernel load
process. I build the kernel on Fedora systems, but the kernels are build from
the kernel.org code. There isn't a panic or anything, it just stops. Have tried
loads of kernel boot options, and various options, for debugging, but nothing
has come up to identify what the issue might be? Wondering if someone on
the list has any experience with these machines. I don't have physical access
to one, so it has been a NY to Guam email exchange for testing.
Thanks.
