Hourly Error Message of Unknown Provenance
by R. G. Newbury
Hi all,
Brand new Fedora 32 KDE spin installation. Seems to work nicely, except:
I have an error notification popping up, every hour, in the bottom right
corner of the screen:
Plasma Desktop Workspace (and the minutes since the message was posted,
or the time, hourly of a previous message)
Update Error
Sender is not authorized to send message.
Searching produces NO answers using any combination of those words.
Can anyone assist? It's very annoying.

installation of F32 onto a ext. disk with 3 partitions
by Joerg Lechner
Hi,I tried to install F32 on one partition of an external disk with 3 partitions. I could not choose the partition I wanted, there was no choice, which I have had in F31 and previously. Is the only way to overwrite F31 in a 3 partitions disk an uograde F31 -> F32?Kind Regards Joerg

grub prompt
by Neal Becker
I installed F32 on a laptop
from Fedora-MATE_Compiz-Live-x86_64-32-1.6.iso. Then updated.
It seem that if I try to boot I just get the dreaded grub> prompt.
But if I have the live-usb stick inserted it boots normally.
Any ideas?

Graphing/Charting software in Linux - recommendations?
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
I mostly use Python/MatPlotLib for my graphing charting needs for a bunch
of self-built, production-oriented things I require.
However, once in a while I need to assemble something ad-hoc, and I
generally revert to MS Excel because of fidelity and functionality.
I've tried doing the same within Gnumeric and Libreoffice, but the results
are considerably less compelling than that of MS Excel.
Would there be any recommendations on what's available w/in the Linux
world that should be evaluated in this regard?
Much thanks,
Max

Fedora-KDE-Live (F32) asks for password
by Neal Becker
I tried creating a live USB with KDE and persistence using:
sudo livecd-iso-to-disk --format --efi --overlay-size-mb 2000
--home-size-mb 2000 ~/Downloads/Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-32-1.6.iso /dev/sdb
This boots up, but comes shows a screen (probably sddm) that asks for
username/password. Tried liveuser/no password, and that didn't work.
Is
Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-32-1.6.iso
defective?

Systemd-boot for MS Surface GO?
by Richard Shaw
So I want to dual boot Windows 10 and Fedora on my MS Surface GO but the
funky Microsoft UEFI REALLY doesn't like grub.
I've read up a bit on systemd-boot and found references that it should work
with the Surface GO but one of the requirements is that the kernel be
compiled to be compatible with EFI executables and that the kernel and
initrd are on the EFI partition.
I get the idea, but practically speaking how would I accomplish that?
1. resize the EFI partition to be 1GB?
2. Somehow update /etc/fstab to make /boot and /boot/efi the same
partition? Bind mount?
3. Install systemd-boot (How do I stop grub from messing things up?)
Anyone done this?
Thanks,
Richard

slow down problem
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
Fedora 32
Xfce 4.14
Every so often, once every two weeks or so for no apparent
reason or program, my computer slows down to about 1/5 speed.
Typed letter take time to appear. File system stuff is five
times slower: tar, dump, etc..
And I can't find anything wrong. iotop and top both show
hardly anything happening. Here is a screenshot of atop:
https://ibb.co/m8Gq1yQ
I notice that when I am doing a tar or a dump, my hard drive
light is on solid or constantly flashing. When the slow
down occurs, it will stay off for a solid five seconds,
the flash a little, and back off again.
And the tar and dumps always come out okay. They just
take five times longer.
Any words of wisdom?
Many thanks,
-T
