Fedora 40 - KeePass fails to run

F40 Live image boot failure

With all the talk of Wayland, I followed up on the idea of downloading an F40 Live image and seeing if it boots on my existing hardware. Well, it did boot on two out of three laptops that are currently running F39. On a 2013-era Thinkpad W520 it immediately fails with a: error: ../../grub-core/disk/efi/efidisk.c:531:invalid buffer alignment -1112264040 error: ../../grub-core/loader/i386/efi/linux.c:258:you need to load the kernel first. Press any key to continue... Although my plans are to use dnf system-upgrade, this looks like a kernel issue to me. It is unclear to me whether the issue lies with the Fedora Live image, or if there's something on this laptops that just blows the kernel from high orbit, whether it'll boot from the USB stick or its existing hard drive. So: would anyone care to put forward an informed opinion?

Grub2 is not updated / grub2-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?)

Hi. Since Kernel 6.8 it looks like grub.conf is not being updated. The files are installed but grub.cfg is not updated. can I clone from a usb flash drive to an NVMe drive?

Hi All, I am making up a USB flash from of Fedroa 40 MATE for a customer to play with. How to increase size of /boot partition

Just today I upgraded from 39 to 40 but there was an issue: dnf told me I needed some 800k more space in my /boot partition to proceed. I had two kernels in /boot so I dnf removed those associated with the older of the two kernels. I then successfully upgraded. I fear the next time I do a dnf update which includes a new kernel I will be told, again, that there is not enough space in my /boot partition. So, how can I increase the size of the /boot partition? Many partitions, like /tmp, are bigger than they need to be. F40 and breaking file command change

Hi Everyone, The file command changed at F40, and it includes some breaking changes. One of my scripts stopped working as expected after the F40 upgrade. The script looks something like this: if wget -q -O "${file}.tmp" \ "${ftc_website}/DNC_Complaint_Numbers_${file}" && \ file "${file}.tmp" | grep -q 'CSV text'; then ;; Success ;; Do some interesting stuff fi This part is now failing: file "${file}.tmp" | grep -q 'CSV text' It appears the file command changed the output label or text from 'CSV text' to 'CSV ASCII text'. 'CSV text' has been used for years. There may be other changes lurking in the updated file command. The issue was reported at < https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2278228>. Jeff

My nvidia F40 update journey

Not as bad perhaps as some of your experiences, because I'm using nvidia GPU for M/L on a remote server and not for desktop display. After update the nvidia driver is not loaded. Tried rebooting a couple of times since sometimes akmod seems to need this. Manually loading the driver modprobe nvidia I get an error message that there is no driver in /lib/modules,... Finally I manually run depmod -a Then reboot again. Now nvidia driver is loaded and nvidia-smi reports success. My question is: Why did I need to manually run depmod -a?

System upgrades. Where is the / filesystem?

Hi all: I have two old systems (with old nVidia graphics), recently upgraded from f38 to f39 and both at present using nouveau. One was OK-ish, the other had screen-recognition and HDMI-audio issues, and I thought it might be worth trying the more-mainstream f40. Now the main problem is with the previously OK (single-boot) box, which reports after the download and dnf-testing that "At least 446 MB more space (is) needed on the / filesystem". Google (fedoraforum) has a suggestion of trimming the journalctl log, but neither that nor any other space-clearing actions that I have tried has made any difference. KDiskFree shows multi-GB space on all except current /boot and a hopefully inactive remnant of another, much older/boot with a different mount point. Both of those have sizes around 450 MB and free space around 150 MB. TTBOMK only the current 6.8.7 f39 kernel and its rescue version are installed. Suggestions? Thanks. John P
