Oops,
It was late last night when I initially posted, and I realize now that the command line
was incorrect. However even fixing that error still gives me errors and no burn. The
output is as follows:
[dishawjp@eunix ~]$ cdrecord -v -eject speed=8 -dev=/dev/cdwriter /home/dishawjp/docs
cdrecord: No write mode specified.

Any thoughts now that I've corrected one of my mistakes?
Which release are you using? FC2, FC3, or?
Which kernel are you using?
Who are you when trying to burn the CD? regular user or root?
Since the 2.6.8 kernel a regular user has not been able to burn a CD.
Some people have said the 2.6.9 kernel allows regular users to burn CDs
again, but that has not been the case for me.
