The right way to edit files like these is to use visudo. If you are not
comfortable with vim then you can set the $EDITOR variable to your
preferred editor and visudo will open up the /etc/sudoers file in your
editor.
All this is to prevent simultaneous edits of the file. Of course again
all this precaution was designed keeping a multi-user environment with
multiple sysadmins in mind. :)
