I just thought that maybe is was known that there are certain
services, such as cups, that are not essential on many systems. I'll
figure out what I can do without with man (and trial and error).

Run system-config-services. This will give you a list of available
services with an explanation of each one. It will also allow you to
dis/enable any you want. Make sure you run it for your run-levels.
