I worked for 17 years on the "AWIPS"(*) project, in which logging was
split into different files based on date and application. It was an
excellent, easy to use (both in programming and in debugging
applications) thing. That experience influenced how I evaluated what
you said. The log files were text files, but as you say,
The journal files are not text files but
journald specific "database" files.
So, splitting up this way doesn't make it easier
to locate information for a given day, IMO.
