What a kludge. Other suggestions?
Include the drive into an automated back-up system that makes use of the
drive that often? (To it, or from it.) Kill two birds with one stone,
that way. You're practising safe computing, and keeping the drive
awake.
Best solution would seem to be some other hardware, though. While
blaming some government for being too pushy about "green" issues.
