Did you try the .13 one too ? I'm curious if this is something
introduced by the exec-shield fixes.

Why not just use the FTP functions built into Nautilus (or Konqueror)?

Ever since about 2.6.9-1.741, I've been unable to get our server to
recognize our Lexmark parallel port printer. Kudzu doesn't see it and
nor can I manually configure it with system-config-printer. Needless to
say this is getting extremely frustrating !
Does anyone have any ideas on getting a printer
recognized/installed/working with these newer kernels ?

My favorite Operating system vendor is the one sending me commission or royalty checks,
since I'm not receiving money from any vendor, I DON'T have a favorite.
I have FC3 installed on my 2nd hard drive. There are a a few issues I have with FC3
that I don't have with Win/XP.
1.) My Sound Blaster 7.1 is not supported in FC3.
2.) FC3 tolerates my Nvidia Geforce video card. I have not found drivers yet.
3.) I'm running up2date but it's doing NOTHING! I place my pointer on the
progress window and all I get is the hourglass.
4.) One of my favorite games, Age of Empires is a Windows based game. I supposed if I
take the time to learn Wine I can play it on FC3.
I do like the fact that Spyware or viruses do not infect my system with Linux
activated.

Simple passwords are generally bad. However, if you understand the
implications the passwd command will *allow* it, the 'Based on a
dictionary word' is merely an advisory response.
Continue to enter the password and it will take and set it to that value.
Or it used to, haven't tried iin a whlie.
Putting aside the wisdom of teaching your child about good passwords (must
be 'this tall' to use system ;) If you're going to continue with the
simple passwd choice, then you need to be sure that your machine isn't
accessible from the internet using that username and password combination.
Theres probably several different ways to do this, but off the top of my
head I don't recall wi th Fedora. Perhaps others can help on that piece.
Cheers,
Al

bit of work.

Visit
nvidia.com. They have drivers there. They are not trivial to
install and every time you change kernels you must re install them.

If you just installed, I suspect your system is trying to sort out the
dependencies with installing about 500 upgrades. I'd leave it run
overnight and see what happens. You do have a broadband connection,
right ?

NO. I wasn't aware that there as a .13 kernel, Dave. I moved from .12
to .14 when the up2date icon advised that non-kernel updates were
available and learned that .14 had been released. The non-kernel
updates installed in the same update session were
xemacs-21.4.17-0.FC2
xemacs-common-21.4.17-0.FC2
xemacs-info-21.4.17-0.FC2
Freewinlibs-1.11-42.1.i386.rpm
None of the non-kernel software has been used.

It was in the updates-testing pool only.

If you could give that a try and find out if it also has problems,
that would narrow it down a little.

Also once he gets this working he can always crypt the password.
Here is something to read on the subject:

Secure expect.
Arguing methods can take forever. And I have seen decent encrypted
pass expect scripts and used ssh keys as well.

Or else disable ssh entirely on the machine if it's not being used.
There are several ways to do that - easiest is to use ntsysv and turn
off ssh so it doesn't start on bootup.

Ran across it in the Dartmouth IRIA news summaries yesterday. It's
scrolled off. It appears to affect the core of Mozilla so it affects
FireFox as well. It should appear in the CERT advisories.
It appears Mozilla is getting more attention from crackers now that
it is starting to command a noticeable market share. It's a matter of
time before more serious items appear. Of course, without things like
ActiveX it's a little harder to mash a Linux machine than a Windows
machine.

Did a search and no love. Sorry.

http://nvidia.com look up the linux drivers -- Then I got thought you
should be able to get the 3D glory from that card even with the open
stuff.

Sounds like you have never, ever got this to update right?
You can run up2date with the command options but your best option is
probably a good old-fashioned trip to the Terminal and then su - to
root and run a yum update.
Yum is typically way faster.

Transgaming and wine might be able to help you.
But ... Transgaming does sell linux ports. Linux Games Publishing I
believe sells native linux games.
I have had good luck with this site but other people have reported trouble.
http://tuxgames.com
At the very least it gives you an idea of the games available in linux.

I like that too.
After being forced for over a year to use a 2000 and now XP laptop at
work I wrote the following Slashdot Journal entry:
http://slashdot.org/~ACK!!/journal/94071
7 Things I miss about Linux
But there is good news I got my little Ultra 5 at my desk decked out
with Solaris 8 and
blastwave.org packages and it works pretty damn
well considering how ancient it is.
The menu redraw rate for the Applications menu is actually better than
Linux, go figure.
Weird.
