Most vaguely modern Android devices support ogg playback (not record) as a standard part of mediaplayer. Android 3.1 also supports flac

What phone do you have?? It sounds very odd that an Android device would not have native support for ogg..
I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's a 'contract' phone; AT&T, for instance is known for 'customizing' android by crippling certain of it's features.
