My name is Robert and just thought id pop in to say, Fedora does sometimes require a little tweaking but you have to keep in mind that its made from millions of people things get overlooked sometimes and you may need to download a couple plugins and such but in my experience its a great platform to learn from and possibly if your comfortable with it a great platform to develop. So my advice to you Paswhia is to be patient read up on release notes and immerse yourself in the fedora project as a whole On Sat, 2010-07-24 at 15:03 +0000, users-request@lists.fedoraproject.org wrote:

Hi, Parshwa;
I've been following this thread for some time now. Had to go back to the original message since the responses seem to have covered about every topic except the original one. I'll asume you now have some kind of internet connection since you seem able to respond fairly rapidly.
One very good reference, if it's available where you are, is Linux Pro Magazine. They have aeveral tutorials each issue along with good information and free distros from different producers. Another good resource would be the Linux or Fedora Bible series. Lots of good information, how-tos, comparisons of different ways to accomplish a goal and why, etc.
I learned much of my linux knowledge from RedHat when they had the 5.x series (before Fedora). Yes, Fedora is a bit harder to learn from as a beginning point, but you learn more that way. Not just knowledge, but also the hows and whys of things. Keep up learning and in a while you'll get where you want to be.

The concept of having a "desktop" with "windows" was invented by Xerox PARC in 1973 and implemented on the Alto computer. That predates pretty much everything else being discussed here.

The concept of a "desktop" with "windows" dates back to the work of Doug Engelbart in the 50s and 60s, starting well before even a basic implementation was feasible. Look him up. He was a true visionary.

Just for the interested...
I've finally managed to get F13 working properly on the new 2010 mac mini. I use it as a MythTV frontend. There are some caveats and issues regarding SATA and HDMI audio which need to be resolved so I've put together a short guide how to get Fedora 13 (x86_64) on the mini.

Something I have an inherent distrust for.
...So does this also mean you have the same inherent distrust for that private internal cloud? You know the one that sits inside of your house and that you control?
The problem here is that you have co-opted the very definition of cloud computing into something that it is not. And then based on that, continue to criticize it. I really think the problem is that you fear a technology that you clearly do not understand.
Many people have stated that public cloud has relatively little value for use cases such as yours. We're all OK with that.
...But, with your current arguments, you should also be distrusting that internet service connection you're using to get to this list.
