(responding to sixpack13)
cause to me it's not clear on what
1. architecture you are (x86_64 or i686) ? ....
2. kernel you are ? ....
3. fedora version you are ? ....

-bash.10[~]:
I cannot explain why this home workstation has "libcap-2.26-5.fc30.i686".
To answer both sixpack13 and Samuel: I've been running Fedora on the
system since spring 2013. I do not recall what version of Fedora that
would have been. If upgrades happen once every 6 months, then Fedora-18
plus or minus 1 is a good guess. I've upgraded every 6 months, always
about a month before support for the release is ended.
The grub menu has the following choices:
Fedora-30
Fedora-29 (from Oct. 10?)
Fedora-29 (from Oct, 03?)
Fedora-30 rescue
Windows-7
The following upgrade steps appear to me to have been successful, all
done last Thursday:
dnf upgrade (from upgrade instructions; patch Fedora-29)
(reboot) (I always do this after patching)
dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade (from instructions; did nothing
- unneeded step)
mv /var/lib/dnf/system-upgrade /home (from Samuel)
ln -s /home/system-upgrade /var/lib/dnf (from Samuel)
dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=30 (from instructions)
dnf system upgrade reboot (from instructions)
dnf repoquery --unsatisfied (from instructions)
dnf repoquery --duplicated (from instructions)
dnf update (from instructions)
rpm --rebuilddb (from instructions)
dnf distrosync (from instructions)
touch /.autorelabel (from instructions)
(reboot) (from instructions)
I got somewhat overwhelmed and lost in the rest of the post. Let's
please take this one step at a time.
So should I do:
"dnf remove $(dnf repoquery --extras --exclude=kernel,kernel-\*)"?
If more information is needed, then what, and how do I get it?
thanks,
Bill.
