Two option that I know of:
1. Remove the package qt5-qtvirtualkeyboard. After removing it the
on-screen keybard no longer appears.
2. Click on (if you can) the little keyboard symbol in the lower right
corner of the on-screen keyboard and it'll disappear. That works to a
certain extent but it pops back on the screen if you do much beyond just
type( I think).

Thank you, thank you!!! The first option fixes it for me. I already
knew about the little keyboard sysbol, and that has allowed me to dig
around and still be able to login
. But that was a real hassle, as it covers over after filling every
field. Now if I just knew how I triggered it in the first place>
