Do you mean you are trying to determine the authoritative name server for the hostname? There is an option to dig '+nssearch' that sounds like it might be able to do this, but I'm not sure how it is used and my feeble attempts did not work.

It is not showing my end DNS server or any dns server at all. I tried substituting other IP's including my own lan IP and my WAN IP (which times out) and no DNS shows up at all
