Guys I have lexmark 1020 the driver is provided in FC1 but it dont work, The printmanager spool the print job but the printer remains dormant. Yes it is on and yes I have checked the printer settings, I have looked on http://www.linuxprinting.org/ and the driver is there I compiled and installed the driver but the same results. It is an lpt printer. I only have a black cartridge.
I tested the printer in windowze and its fine!??#
Any ideas?

In the FWIW category, I have a Lexmark 2050 for which FC1 has a driver (c2050) but it dunna seem to work at all. Same results as what you see with the printer either directly or remotely connected. In Windows it works fine directly connected to a machine but fails to work if shared so it seems (to me) that the Windows driver is not all that great either.
linuxprinting lists Lexmark inkjets under the "useless" category of vendors http://www.linuxprinting.org/vendors.html
Now I have a cheap Brother laser printer that cost me less than the 2050 did. It is hung on the lan with a D-link printer port thing and works fine from Windows (95, 98, 2K, XP) and Linux (rh9, fc1, bsd).
Kind regards,
Mike

Reports like this should probably go in Bugzilla, by the way. If we're shipping a driver that doesn't work, it sounds like it needs fixing or removing.

Hi Tim,
I guess I figured that it was a high probability that it was me not setting things up correctly somehow that was somehow inhibiting it's function. Other than saying that "it doesn't do anything" I don't know enough about printing in Linux to give sufficient info in a defect (IMHO). Plus the fact that I'd like to see y'all working on the existing defects (such as 91773, hint hint) that probably affect a greater number of users than some old printer not working.
Now, I should add that after being unsuccessful in getting the 2050 to work I also tried an old Proprinter X24 impact printer and could not get it to print anything other than garbage. So my ability to set up a locally connected printer was (in my mind anyway) in question.
Kind regards,
Mike

I purchased a Lexmark inkjet printer after finding Linux drivers on the Lexmark WWW page. I got rid of the printer a couple of months later due to many printing problems. Purchased an Epson and havn't had any problems yet. The Epson was cheaper than the Lexmark ink cartridges that were causing me all my problems.
Fedora installed and recognized the printer from scratch. The only problem I had was with "The Gimp" and that was a simple configuration.

There are two versions of the 1020 consumer and business the business is OK as it understands postscript the consumer on the other had is a piece of doggie doo. I still have one under my desk as a foot rest (and its not much good as that either). I have read that it emulates a hp500 but i never did get that to work. With the immense cost of lexmark cartridges and the disposable nature of ink jets throw it away and buy something else, save yourself the headaches I have 4 canon printers here that all worked straight away with the redhat/fedora setup. Lexmarks are bad..
Ps the reason that it is fine under windows os that ts a winprinter that has hardly any hard/firmware smarts and the driver does all the work.
