Turn off Animation

Hello,
I'm sure this is much easier than it seems to me, but I have searched my
entire 'start' menu in FC1, Gnome, and can't find how to turn off the
animation when I minimize a window.

Can someone enlighten me, please?

I found in the list archives that that feature is not yet implemented in 
FC1/Gnome.

I can turn off animation in KDE by going to:
Control Center/Desktop/Windows Behavior/Moving/Animate Minimize and Restore.

It's a Metacity feature.
I wonder if anyone is using Sawfish in FC1? I've read a few people are
using the XFCE4 wm in Gnome.

If you go into Gconf configuration editor, go into apps, then metacity,
then general. Click "Reduced Resources". I believe that this setting
will disable animation and the display of window contents while
dragging/moving, etc.

With respect to the use of XFWM4 and GNOME, there are some issues with
GNOME panel when using XFWM4. The panels will not be positioned properly
on login and have to be repositioned manually. This is known and is in
Bugzilla.

I am using the full XFCE4 desktop along with Rox instead of Nautilus and
it is great.

Upgrade of RH 7.1 and Linuxconf

Everyone,

I have tried to upgrade my RH 7.1 box with FC1 and had some problems.  The first time I
started the upgrade it aborted; I tried it again and a third time with subsequent failures
after not being able to find linuxconf.  The first time it aborted the missing file
'linuxconf' message was not present.

I was able to reboot 7.1 and linuxconf is now missing on the system.  I do not know if
linuxconf was missing before I started the upgrade or not.  My belief is that linuxconf
was present and somehow got deleted during the upgrade.

Is there a way to recover from this problem without going to the backup's, or
preferably is there a way to continue the Fedora upgrade.

Linuxconf died a long and horrible death many years ago. There are better ways
to do things. Linuxconf was borked in MANY MANY ways.

You do not want to reinstall it. It WILL bork your system. Make sure you have
good backups and run the upgrade again. It _should_ get any packages it missed
the first time.

I must thank you for that Metacity tip. I was always under the
impression this was 'hard-coded', never occured to me to look in gconf.
It does however make resizing windows an ugly experience ;)
Another feature Metacity lacks is making windows sticky on top.

Yes, this works. And also changes resizing and moving to the horrible
behaviour of twm, putting those awful 9 rectangles to define window
size. And it ignores title bar, so it seems you're always resising
wrong. Disabled it for the time of discovering this. Became so ugly that
I gave up.

Gconfeditor -> apps -> Metacity -> general -> reduced_recources has to
be checked
