F20 - HP3050 scanning problems

I am having trouble getting F20 to work with the scanning function of my 
HP3050. hplip and hp-setup are installed, and the printing function 
works fine, but the "Simple scan" and Xsane are not able to see the 
scanner. Running hplip-3.14.1.run returns a F20 not supported error, 
stating that I can try the F19 files. I have not proceeded with that 
option as I am concerned that doing so might cause more problems.

Further google searches have revealed no other information that seems 
relevant.

Any suggestions?

Just because the system finds it doesn't mean that the program 
recognizes it.  And, BTW, his name is Fred, not Shirley.

I have the same issue with the HP Scanjet 8200. The scanner is seen by 
both simple scan and the aquire, but then they get a message that it can not 
open the scanner. Tried running some hp setup programs but no luck. I did 
find one message that was talking about Fedora 19, and it said to downgrade 
what I believe was a driver program to support scanners, but in doing a 
search in Fedora 20, it only had versions that were higher. 

Think it was some version.20 that was suppose to work, but Fedora 20 have 
version.24, and I think version.22 was the oldest version I could find.

Nice scanner, but it just sits on a file cabinet, since it will not work with 
Fedora 20.

The problems I've had with the scanners and software
I've used has been as a result of the scanner/printer being networked, not USB
connected.  Don't know if that's what you are running into as well.

I know my system can see my DJ F300, but SimpleScan won't access it.

I've never used anything BUT simplescan on 3 different scanners (none of 'em are
HP), an ancient SCSI scanner,
a Brother MFC device at work, and a new2-ish Epson at home. Each on a different
version/distro of Linux.

The Epson is new enough that the versions of SANE and SimpleScan bein g distributed by RH
don't know how to
find it, unless you hack at it a bit. I.e., the program will start up and fail to find any
scanners. I can
probably go into more detail if you want.

The thought had crossed my mind just after my last reply that I had
the same problem OP had with the same maker of printers, that being
HP.  I wonder if that's coincidence?  Not that I believe in them,
particularly.

Hmm, it's interesting that you say that you can't get Simple Scan to work
for you as I've had the *least* amount of problems with
Simple Scan than any of the other scanner software (with a Canon Pixma printer/scanner). 
I guess different setups have their own

Just installed Acquireimages, and it gives a "Cannot open scanner 
device" message.

Yeah,don't use Simple Scan, as far as I can tell, it's junk.  I use
AcquireImages which is available in KDE.  If you aren't using KDE, I
don't know what else I would even try.  Simple Scan is just horrid.
