After a yum update, I'm running kernel "2.6.16-1.2083_FC6". The "FC6" looks a little strange. Is this really OK?
Thanks,
John

I saw this once and believe it had to with installing a beta version of FC5 and then doing an upgrade - instead of installing FC5 final.

you're still on rawhide by the looks of it, try installing http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/5/_YOUR_ARCH_HERE_/o...

Thanks, yes I installed FC5T3 and then yum updated to FC5, looks like it didn't quite work. I've got fedora-release-5-5.noarch.rpm installed, but I guess yum doesn't think I need a new kernel. Oh well, things are working fine, I'll just live with it for a while.
Thanks for the clarification.

2.6.16-1.2083_FC6 would be perceived by yum as newer than the current stable kernel 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5, because it is, so yum isn't going to install it in a normal update. -Dan

Make sure that the "development" repos in /etc/yum.repos.d have no "enabled=1" entries in them. Otherwise you'll be on rawhide rather than FC5 and will have a regularly-broken system.
