Has anyone figured this out? I tried Win 7 in both KVM and VirtualBox. I had more success in the latter. Windows recognizes the device (so does Linux) but the mytalk updater does not. In fact, as soon as it probes for the device Windows loses it.

I've no idea what "mytalk updater" is, but this sounds like what happens with iPhones. It turns out that when doing a firmware update, the device sneakily changes its USB ID info, so you have to allow passthrough on the special updater ID as well as the normal one.
