Yes, I found that disabling SSL works. They have a problem with the SSL connections apparently.

Goto Manage Account -> Select your AIM Account -> Select Modify -> Goto the "Advanced Tab" -> Uncheck 'Use SSL'
Seems a recent change in AIM has caused issues with pidgin... that workaround will solve the issue until the bug is fixed.
Pidgin Developers are already aware of the problem.
