Has anyone used Ximian Connector successfully with Fedora Core 1?
There does not appear to be a way to try it our without buying the license up front. They have a package for RH9, but I was not sure it would work for Fedora, and don't want to pay $69 to find out.
Thanks in advance, jdk

I use it at work on FC 1 to connect to an MS Exchange 2003 server (yukk). It works very well, though I think there is some weird issue with it under FC 1. When I am running Evo everything works perfectly, however, whenever I shutdown Evo, I get a segfault. It doesn't affect anything and I can fire Evo back up and it runs great again. Shut Evo down and another error message, lather rise, repeat. I have used it for a few months and it is very stable except for the odd ball shutdown of Evo. I am not sure if it has something to do with NTPL or prelink. It is just something I live with. I used an old RH9 and redcarpet to install Ximian Evolution and Ximian Connector and grabbed the RPM from there. I then used rpm2cpio to save a tar file and just copied the few files manually to my FC1 box. It is much better then using the OWA.
You can install Connector, though I believe you will need to register your key before you can connect to an MS Exchange server. I know they have some money back thingy if your are not satisfied.
Ximian does not support FC1 right now, so if that matters to you, you would have to use RH9, SuSE 9 or Mandrake.

James,
I have had the same segfault problem with Connector, but using RH9. I tried to submit a bug report through bug-buddy (IIRC), but got no response. Since then our IT department has shutdown the Exchange 2003 OWA in favor of the 5.5 version. When (if) it is restored I'll troubleshoot more.
Also, there does not seem to be a try-before-you-buy option.

I am successfully using Ximian Connector with Evolution 1.4.5 and FC1. You can download the Ximian Connector RPM from the Ximian FAQ site. It will not work however until you install the license file which you must pay for. Also, there is a missing dependency that I haven't found any RPM's to satisfy, so I copied the missing library from a RedHat 9 box and did a rpm -Uhv --nodeps ximian-connector-something.rpm and it works ok. I copied /lib/libcom_err.so.3 from the RH9 box to the same location on FC1, and I <?>think</?> you also need to copy it to /usr/kerberos/lib/libcom_err.so.3. If you find another place to get the missing library, let me know, because I have to remove the ximian-connector package every time I do an apt-get operation, because it complains about the missing dependency.
Here's the (painfully long) url to download ximian-connector: http://support.ximian.com/cgi-bin/ximian.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=a... Otherwise, go to the Ximian homepage/support/Ximian Connector link/Can I install Ximian Connector without using Red Carpet? http://support.ximian.com/cgi-bin/ximian.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=mwRcdX2h&p_lva=&p_faqid=173&p_created=1017269162&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTQ3JnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9JnBfcHJvZF9sdmwxPTcmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=
Hope this helps. Jason

Ximian needs to update their plug-in, because libcom_err.so.3 no longer exists on FC1. Any workarounds involving using old libraries or trying to symlink other libraries to libcom_err.so.3 you use at your own risk.
