Hi guys,i had install the mplayer from repo, and i had puted codecs file named all-20071007 into the /usr/lib/codecs,however i still can't see the rmvb files.i can hear the sounds, but can't see the video.why? i did the same things last time, and there was not any problem. must i replace the all-20071007 by window-all-20071007? what' the difference between them?
Try to use RealPlayer 11 for linux http://www.real.com/linux.
Or , download the codecs from https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=61561&package_id=...
( rp9codecs.tar.bz2 and rp9win32codecs.tar.bz2 )
unpack the content of these files in /usr/lib/codecs
If this solution doesn't work, then make a symbolic link to the /usr/lib/codecs
# ln -s /usr/lib/codecs /usr/lib/win32 because mplayer might search the codecs in this folder

I recently reinstalled Fedora 8 and went thru this. I have no problems with mplayer (it plays everything!). I just grabbed the codecs file from:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html#binary_codecs
...then unpacked it on /usr/lib/codecs without any problem.
Just make sure you unpack the individual files (dll's...etc) on that same directory. When you unpack that it will create a directory..just move the files there to /usr/lib/codecs
Anyway, I never heard of any "rmvb" files? Are there REal Media (.rm) files? Please post the output when you play the file from the command-line.

I don't know what's the difference. You should get them straight from the source (the link I provided you).

Traditionally on sets up a soft link: /usr/lib/win32 -> /usr/local/lib/codecs or to where you put the codecs. -- ======================================================================= The only way to learn a new programming language is by writing programs in it. - Brian Kernighan ======================================================================= Aaron Konstam telephone: (210) 656-0355 e-mail: akonstam@sbcglobal.net

We don't know, you haven't provided a non-working example for anyone else to try.
Not all Real Media files will work for us. I haven't come across any rmvb files, is that a typing error?

What do you mean by replace? Replace what with what?
Also, if you look at the mplayer website, it does say that the Windows codecs are meant for a mplayer installation on Windows. The codec package for Linux is different. That may be important to you.
