Going back to try the upgrade; I installed (had to force) the

yum update rpm\* yum\* does not get me anywhere new. I still have the
dependency problem with python. The new yum wants python 2.5, at least
3 packages require python(abi)=2.4 and have no upgrade that will take
them to python 2.5 (as far as I can tell).
I had similar problems upgrading my FC5 to F8. In order to finish it, I
had to remove those packages with no upgrade paths. They either came
from obsolete repos, or were obsolete themselves. A couple of them
really confused me. But, so far, I was able to complete my upgrade, and
I've been able to re-install of couple of the removed packages
afterwards anyways (like mythmusic).
I can post the contents of my yum.repos.d directory if that would
help.
Try removing the packages with no upgrade paths first. you can always
re-install them again if you need them (at least that's the theory).
Posting the specific errors and packages that won't upgrade is probably
more help to us at this point.
