Hello everyone,
I just moved to Fedora 12 (finally) and I enabled the RPM Fusion repo in order to install the nvidia driver plus mplayer (and all its dependencies) in order to see if I could finally use mplayer with vdpau (in order to offload h.264 playback to the GPU).
Unfortunately when I play some h.264 material I get: [vdpau] Could not open dynamic library libvdpau.so.1
I chechked all the packages that were installed (after requesting the nvidia driver):
kmod-nvidia-2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i686.PAE-190.42-1.fc12.8.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs-190.42-5.fc12.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-190.42-5.fc12.i686 nvidia-xconfig-1.0-1.fc12.i686 kmod-nvidia-PAE-190.42-1.fc12.8.i686 nvidia-settings-1.0-3.2.fc12.i686
...but none of them provide this file. Is there a way around this? ...before going the mplayer compilation route :(
Thanks, Jorge

Ummm…
Did you try "yum install libvdpau"?

Did you try "yum install libvdpau"?
And, for future reference, a "yum whatprovides libvdpau.so.1" would have provided the answer.

Working here with F11 and latest beta Nvidia driver downloaded from Nvidia. It installed,
libvdpau_nvidia.so.1 -> libvdpau_nvidia.so.195.22
I'm using the latest mplayer for F11
MPlayer SVN-r29701-4.4.1 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team
Maybe your nvidia libs are too old ? I don't think you'll fix anything by compiling mplayer.
Regards,
John

I don't use vdpau myself, but yum whatprovides *libvdpau.so gives the following info:
libvdpau-devel-0.2-1.fc12.x86_64 : Development files for libvdpau Repo : fedora Matched from: Filename : /usr/lib64/libvdpau.so
libvdpau-devel-0.2-1.fc12.i686 : Development files for libvdpau Repo : fedora Matched from: Filename : /usr/lib/libvdpau.so
So I guess you need to "yum install libvdpau-devel".
HTH, :-) Marko

Ahhhhh thanks a million Sam! Shame on me!!! That one got me. I never thought it was as simple as that...My mistake thinking something was crippled (in the dependencies). I was like... "why if this is essential to mplayer..why isn't there...?" but duh.... Not everyone that has an Nvidia card it's going to use mplayer or viceversa.
Got it working now... I love this (to playback any h.264 video and not seeing mplayer eating 100 % of my CPU).
Thanks again! Jorge
