I never used Audacious, I'll give it a try... Anyway, I don't listen music on my laptop but I do watch videos. And I'm stuck with a codec thing up to now :-(

For videos, ..I.. Think Vlc is the best.. Installing it usually is one of the first things I do after so install.. It brings in almost everything you need to play any video type..
