This is spatial behaviour of Gnome 2.6
If you want it to look like back in FC1..
try searching through for a site that's something like this
bytebot.net

Hi Chad;
I was wondering the same thing myself, however, I found the trick.
Instead of Double Clicking on the Computer icon or the user's Home folder, right click on it and choose Browse Folder. This will bring up the view that stays in one window and gives you all the old menu bars you are used to.
You can also access the Browse Filesystem from the Gnome menu which gives you the same view as right clicking on the Computer icon on your desktop.
I was just as frustrated as you were until I tried right clicking on a folder and chose Browse Folder and whammo I got the old Nautilus view that I prefer that has all the menu bars and it stays in one window while you navigate.
Sincerely, Gerald Thompson

as others have mentioned already, this is the new default behaviour of Nautilus... I hated it at first, but you should really try it out for a few days, because it really grows on you. I wouldn't want to use Nautilus in Browser mode anymore, and from what i've heard/read, a lot of people are starting to like/love the new nautilus even though most people hated it at first.

Indeed! I didn't like it too when I first started it, but I start to like it. Even more after changing a few things:
* set left pane to "Tree" view * Edit -> Preferences -> Views: View new folders using: List View
Now it is much more clearly arranged and one can work with it!
Cheers, Hannes.
